  • Easy Tracks Around Sydney Town?

Now that I finally have a vehicle, where might I find some easy tracks close to the town of Sydney? There and back in a day and overnighters.

My significant other has never been "4wd-ing" but is very keen to see our island, so I would like to ease her into this whole off-roading thing before we tackle some big trips.

I'm sure theres stuff on this site, but searching hasn't helped me out much.

1st thing, buy a 4wding map covering 250 km around Sydney. My 2 favourites are to go to Newnes via ZigZag railway and Blackfellows Hand track. Lots of side trips there. The other one is go to Capertee and take the tracks along the Turon River to Sofala and Hill End. Take your camera. Smile a lot!

      See you on the track.

If the glow worm tunnel still exists, it will be a good trip to take the 4WD out and hike to the tunnel for some fun in the dark. Looks like it still is http://www.visitnsw.com/destinations...ow-worm-tunnel

Check out the NSW trip reports section on this forum for some suggestions too. Plenty within a day or weekend of Sydney in there.

Yep still there. Lots of fun for the kids. Take the gumboots cos you'll get wet feet. Not fun in winter. Post here if you're planning a trip and you might find company. http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...W-next-day-out

Best places to start would be..
              - Newnes plateau (enter at Zig Zag or via Lithgow). Lots of other vehicles around, so a safer place to go in terms of recovery and not getting lost
              - Sunny Corner State Forest / Turon River National Park
              - Lidsdale State Forest / Marangaroo National Park

It'd be good to go in the Prado. Last trip I went was in a Camry back in my uni days. Not a comfortable ride.

Also to the north you have Ourimbah SF and the Watagans for day trips and the Barringtons for overnighters. Lots of good tracks through them all.

If you head south you can go in through the back of fitzroy falls and along the gun rock fire trail, it's a nice easy day trip with some good places to stop and keep the other half happy, Berry and Kangaroo valley etc

Also try Wombeyan Caves rd down south through Mittagong

There is also a good book, 4wd tracks within 2 hours of sydney which has some good drives.
2011 Toyota Prado D4D, Black, ARB whinch bar, IPF lights, more to come!

What? Stockton Beach closed? We were ripping around there well before it was popular. Whats the story behind that?
