broken hill area

Hi guys,
Looking for some ideas of places around the Broken Hill area.
Must be some good 4wding, good camping, etc.....
Will have 3 vehicles with camper trailers, and 5 five kids.
All vehicle and campers very capable.
Maybe Mutawintji NP or somewhere else..
Thoughts??

G'day.
If you go up to Mungo National Park you can then get up to Broken Hill via Menindee lakes area. Pretty much all dirt tracks that way. Otherwise once you're in Broken Hill it's just a short dash up to Cameron Corner?

Not much "good" four wheel driving as most roads are accessible to two wheel drive in my experience. Kinchega NP is great, could easily spend a few days there. Mutawintji NP is also very nice, but probably only worth one full day. Why not do Mungo NP for a couple of nights, then a few at Kinchega NP and then back home.

Hi We've been to Mutawintji three times now. The first time was with the kids. They loved it. We played "paddy melon" bocce and had great campfires and walks. All good. Since then, we went back twice for some adult time. Again, wonderful walks in country very reminiscent of some parts of the Kimberley area. Red, beehive rocks and great night sky. The campground is really good by a (mostly) dry creek bed. It has a solar hot shower and flush dunnies. As well, the bore water there is beautiful. It's one of our favourite places. Go there!

Hi Darren,

There is camping site at Sliverton, 20 km north of Broken Hill, called Prenrose Park. It is an old picnic ground that has been opened up to camping.

Cost is cheaper than any of the caravan parks in Broken Hill. You are allowed to have an open fire and you can collect firewood from nearby creek (but a bit short in supply)

We dropped by Penrose park in Easter this year for lunch when we visited the Broken Hill area. The weather this year was coolish but certainly a lot of flies about. So just bear that in mind. I'll assume that the flies will be worse in the warmer months.

Seems like the others have changed the plans, now we will be stopping at Hattah and camping beside the river for the week.
Not as far to go, and the other kids can take the mini 4 wheeler without any issues.
Also, nice shallow area with lots of sand for some swimming.
May have to do a few day trips to find somewhere for low range to be used...
