I must admit that Brain's recall on this trip has been fantastic so far, one thing he did miss was the ladies running down to Palm Creek to view the Hilux boys with their shirts off, one in particular, Bruxy, was a popular favourite. So much so that for the rest of the trip whenever a shirt was removed by our guys, the call of "BRUXY" rang through the Nth Qld bush. We however didn't quite match up to Bruxy's physique.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I was tired when I was doing the last posts Richo.
But yes as Richo has eluded to when we went down and saw the boys trying to get the Hiluxes through. Initially they had walked into the creek to check it out. When we returned back to camp the conversation went something like this.
Women (drinking Champas): So are they going to cross Palm Creek?
Brains: Yes looks like they are going to give it a go.
Women: Will they get through alright, are they families or just blokes?
Brains: A group of 4 guys in their 20's. Probably would be in your best interest to go take a look, theres a bit of eye can...
(Women immediately take off from their chairs they were lounging in and start sprinting, carrying their Champas [not spilling a drop] towards the Palm Creek crossing) as Brains finishes saying
Brains: ...dy for you ladies.
I had never seen any of these women move that quickly for anything let alone doing something for their hard working husbands!
When I got back to the crossing (I walked) it was embarrassing to see these grown women acting like 16 year old school girls. Yeah BRUXY had no shirt on, Yeah he worked out a bit (Apparantly a Crossfit Champion), Yeah he was younger but imagine if vise versa had occurred and we went down to check out some young females, we would be labelled as dirty old men.
We sat around the fire recounting the days activities especially the fact that the Prado was the only vehicle that made it into Palm Creek without being winched, when the Patrol drivers simply couldn't accept that the Prado was better I was able to then put it down to driver ability. But they wouldn't accept that so I went back to the Prado being the superior vehicle. As we couldn't reach agreement (Richo, LFaR and I knew the answer and that was all that mattered) we packed up and put our heads down for the night as the rest of the OTT lay ahead.
Saturday 22nd June 2013
After awakening to another great day we went through the motions of having breakfast and packing up, hearing Richo yell out 'DONE' and a couple of 'BRUXY' calls when we removed our shirts when packing up the roof top tents.
Once everyone was packed we made our way on the track and headed north. It's only a short drive to the next crossing Ducie Creek. Berin was first and stopped and went for a walk through the creek. Ducie has a solid base and was only about 300mm to 500mm deep as far as Berin walked. We all lined up for the crossing. You enter the creek and make a right turn to run towards the exit so as you are entering the creek you don't see the vehicle in front unless you are into the creek. Richo went in front of me and turned to the right to take the right hand exit.
Berin directed me in and to take the left exit. You get about 3/4 way across and there is a bit of a hole that you go through which is a bit more than 500mm deep. I think that the Nissan driver was trying to throw everything at the Prado to stop its forward movement.
If you look where the arrow is pointing to that is the rear of our Prado and a reference picture of the back to see the depth. That is the rear light near the top of the water with the Maxtrax on the right wheel and the roof top tent through the tree. (Sorry about the quality its a zoomed video still)
LFaR having seen the spare rear wheels on the Kaymar bar nearly go all the way under, drove to the right of centre when he came through.
If you look at the last photo where Jamika (blue shirt) is standing a brand new Ford Ranger rolled onto the left hand side exiting the crossing. They were all okay and we ended up seeing him cross Nolans with the passenger door taped shut, plastic on the window and the roof rack strapped on with ratchet straps. Good to see he kept going and didn't wimp out.
Just goes to show how a simple exit like that can turn nasty, he was however carrying a lot of gear on the roof rack.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Again, awesome write up. I work with someone that yells out 'Done!' every time he completes a task, which drives everyone mad. Apart from that, sounds an awesome trip.

Thanks M3R,
So do you work with Richo? Should I be throwing that Banter out, there I go again more Banter on top of banter. I apologise in taking this Thread off Topic.
And yes it was an awesome trip with some great members of Pradopoint.
As Richo mentioned the left hand side of the exit from Ducie Creek was where a Ford Ranger had rolled sustaining substantial damage. We had all taken the track to the right but here is the left hand track from the top.
Prior to getting to Ducie I forgot to post a photo of what most Prado drivers never really have to encounter but is often witnessed when travelling with Nissan owners/drivers. Tano was continually tinkering with his Patrol to keep it going. Tano ended up getting called "The Amazing Tano" due to his previous work on the winches, his continued work on his Patrol and fridge and upcoming work on another vehicle (not a Prado).
Unfortunately the Prado's drivers were having to deal with their own problems that had continued to plague these drivers the whole trip since they left the black top. Richo, Brains and LFaR had noticed that all their Prado's were suffering from the same problem and it had escalated to an extreme level when they had to take action.
The dust build up was beginning to become a problem on the outside of the Prado's, especially on the badges and above the rear door. See what happens when you don't have to spend time pulling your vehicle apart and you are waiting for Nissans to be put back together.
Well the trip continued from Ducie Creek along the OTT and you pass what is South Alice Creek which pretty much went un-noticed. From South Alice the next creek is North Alice which is basic as it has a rocky bottom and only shallow (in the dry season).
Once through North Alice we continued north. As you start seeing the remains of the reason why the OTT is named it saddens me to see what some people that call themselves 4WDers are capable of. Not only are the ceramic insulators all gone from the telegraph posts but people have pushed, pulled and bent these posts over so that they could easily access and steal the insulators. It is unfortunate that this Telegraph line still doesn't remain in place for us to see and our children to see how communication took place in history. People that have done this should be ashamed of what they have done. All I can say is that these people that do this are the reason why tracks get closed and access to some great spots gets revoked.
Come on Brains.... Almost a week since the last instalment
