Rob...I'll be your buddy boy..as they operate a buddy system from memory...although that is not the sole reason I'll be coming. Went there with Richo a few years ago now..will be good to go back and find a solid tree to pack my winch and give you your zip tie back..LOL!

      Charles,
Sure, see you there about 9, and it means I don't need to tag along with the nissans after all...
Is that cable tie still holding strong?
      Cheers

Rob..I think I may have changed it actually!! The only reason it's still there is you have to re-pack a winch real well with great force. My battery died when I last used the winch hence it's been loose ever since and I've never found a tree or a car (WTF?) since then to repack it all together. I'm one of those people it's gotta be done right or not at all so it's remained like that for some time.....

Can you pm me your no again? Just in case.

Hi Rob, would love to come however our garage sale today was a runaway success so I have a fist full of $5 notes and $2 coins to spend (nah), sold a heap but have to take the rest to charity, friends and the dump. Have a great day out guys.

          Cheers Dan

                  Trip Report

After an early morning coffee it was out to Jenowan Hills . My eldest had sneaked his way into the passenger seat and frankly I would rather him out there than on the computer!. The trip takes about 2+ hours out and as there is extensive road works this side of the range. They only have one lane open in about three sections of the highway at the moment so you have to wait a while they manage the traffic while resurfacing.

I met up with Charles (Macroon1) out there , so it was just us for the day.
My fault for only giving short notice of the trip, resulting in many not being able to make it.

After airing down, it was off to explore the tracks. Charles has a steel winch cable that looked like a birds nest of wire that morning. First stop was to clean and repack his winch cable. Hooked up to a solid tree on an incline and ran out the cable with a tree trunk protector, Charles cleaned it and then we repacked it under load. Result was a neat tight packing of the steel cable and ready for action.

Next stop were the wombat holes on the way to the lower dam. We knew there were others out here as they happened to be on the same uhf channel as us. After moving channel we found them at the wombat holes in their 4wd training course. We decided to return later after they finished

Mud- Even though it had dried out in the 4wd park , down near the dam in the creek bed, there was a decent section of sticky smelly mud.

Charles found a nice short stick to test the depth, while I waited camera in hand to get the shot of the day. It was to be Charles sinking into the quagmire while I told him to get closer, closer….. But alas my cunning plan was foiled by his 24 foot long stick….. Next time …..

We needed no more encouragement, time to get muddy

We then went over the back of the park and covered a lot of the other tracks. It was very dry, and not slippery but there were quite a lot of rocky sections , so it was just about wheel placement more than anything else. A very pleasant drive though. Lunch time had us driving up to the lookouts.

A few photos up the top of the first lookout.

Stopping for lunch this was our view. In the distance we looked out to the next mountain range where DSS150 and I were the other week in the distance. Just a cracking day with good company.

After a lazy lunch we went back on the trails and worked our way through a lot of the tracks. Couple of the harder tracks near the dam had some steep 3-4 foot drop-offs which were washed out by the recent rain in the creek bed, not wanting to break my bumper AGAIN , saw us doing some tracking building with the shovel and some large rocks, but nothing stopped the two Prados that day.
Charles Reaching for the sky below…

The day was drawing to an end to we made our way back to the wombat holes before we left. It’s a great place to test out flex and get some diagonal wheels off the ground etc. Then it was time for us to air up, say out goodbyes and start the drive home after a great day out. I am already looking forward to the next one.
