  • Anyone Know about Stockton Beach???

    Anyone know the deal with Stockton Beach at the moment?
    Got some mates wanting to go, but I don't know what is open, closed, whether 4wds are allowed in the "RV" area etc etc
    Their website is also clear as mud unfortunately :-(

    Cheers!

    I was up there with the family a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. I was able to drive in from Lavis Lane, down to the wreck then back up to Anna Bay, stopping at Tin City along the way. Basically south of Lavis Lane down towards the wreck there is heaps of room to drive around the dunes and explore. North of Lavis Lane you are restricted to the beach front, which is plenty wide enough to drive along. We picked a day where low tide was around 4pm and arrive at around lunch time. Not sure how much room there would have been in some places at high tide so do watch that.

    We did need a pass, which I bought from the servo opposite McDonalds on Lavis Lane. It was $10 for 3 days.

    Things to watch out for... I found the entry tricky as the sand was soft. I had the tyres at 24psi and I just went for it, unsuccessfully. I backed down to try again.. still no good. I then dropped the pressures to 18psi, pushed a bunch of buttons to turn on all the traction control modes, lockers, low range, etc and it then ate it up without breaking a sweat. I probably went overboard here but how often do you get to play with all those features with everyday driving. The other thing to watch is there were a few quite harsh looking drop-offs to the water's edge that I would imagine could easily see you staring in a YouTube clip of the Prado on it's roof or having waves lapping around it.

    Here are some pictures from the day.

      Thanks MrX
      So basically 90% of it is still "shut" due to a storm event 18mnths ago :-(
      <sigh>

      Yeah, should've said, familiar with the beach, was hoping for a recent report, preferably saying I'd read the website wrong.

        Yea, it looks like you are correct. Lots of places that were off limits. I can see how much more fun you could have exploring if you had more freedom. I've only had the Prado for 2 months or so so even small things can excite me at the moment .... I even had fun at Boat Harbour so Stockton the way it is today was so much of a step up.
