First Fraser Trip

Hi Guys.
I am heading to Fraser for the first time at the end of March with the family and would like to hear any pointers from people who have been there. I have a stock standard Prado 150 and will be towing a camper trailer and will be putting a dual battery system after xmas. Any other must haves that I need to take with me besides a shovel and a snatch strap.

I'd say do a search of Fraser Island trips, there's plenty of info & reports.

Here's our last trip, it would be about the same time of the year as you are going.

Let your tyres down. Turn off the traction control. If your on your own you might want to take 4 recovery tracks just in case.
The rest is the easy part, have fun!

Electric tyre pump, easy deflators, tyre pressure gauge, plenty of change for the showers.

I did it years ago in a bog standard Subaru Outback Limited. Take your time and enjoy.

Maybe walk the bypass tracks at Indian Head and Middle Rock before you go through. That way you'll know about any holes from people have gotten stuck. If you hit them at speed you're gonna have a bad time.

Maxtrax make getting out of trouble in sand really easy.

Take the time to enjoy a few places rather than trying to do too much.

Champagne Pools are packed. Try going to Waddy Point at low tide and walking around the tip. There's rock pools there with fish in them. Keep an eye on the tide though.

I go up every year and was there last weekend. It's definitely a beautiful place and you're sure to have a great time. Just take things easily.
A few random thoughts.
Try to be getting off the barge from Rainbow Beach about 1.5 hrs before low tide so you get a good run up the eastern beach if you're towing a camper. Phone the barge (Manta Ray) closer to your trip and they will advise you on the best times to travel.
Fill your fuel tanks before leaving the mainland. Fuel on the island is Uluru prices! But then freight would be pretty expensive.
If you've got small children, consider staying at one of the official camp grounds to minimise any problems with dingos. But camping in any of the designated camping spots on the main beach is also great.
Definitely carry Max Trax as the track behind Indian Head can be like talcum powder if it hadn't rained for a while. There was lots of Max Traxing going on last weekend!
Avoid drinking water from the fresh water streams that trickle across the beach. The water table is pretty close to the base of many campers' loos dug up in the dunes.
22psi is ok for most travel, but if you're heading into soft sand, 18psi would give you better flotation.
Observe the speed limits. Police are regularly on the island and are pretty proficient with radar guns and RBT testing - which only helps ensure the safety of campers.
Fraser Island is a very special place. Enjoy yourselves and the great scenery. I can't wait to go back.

Thanks for the tips. I will be in a group of 4 cars and they have all been before but any advice is good.
