G'day PP Peeps.
I'll be heading to the high country for a few days Jan 4-7th and I am looking for suggestions for a scenic route on the way back to NSW South Coast/Shoalhaven area (You all chose the wrong time of year for the GTG - I'll have a newborn kiddy then so have to go at this time
)
Due to time constraints the plan is to leave Bateman's Bay / Ulladulla area and just tank up to Harrietville via the Hume Highway in a day. (Long day but we'll have 1 vehicle and 3 drivers). But on the way back we have the 'luxury' of two days (8-9 Jan). So I am looking for something a little more scenic, and more than a just snooze on cruise control up the highway. (not literally snoozing but you know what I mean). I've never been in that part of Australia so would like to make the most of it.
We'll be 4x4ing in the High Country Jan 4-7, so not too fussed about getting off the bitumen on the way back, and will have a 70 yr old and 8 year old with me so don't want to risk breaking down too remotely.
I've done Syd-Melb 3 times via the coast route so would like to avoid that. But have never driven the Great Alpine road so could consider it if worth it.
Any suggestions for a scenic route? Quick squizz at Google Maps and so far I'm considering:
Harrietville > Yackandandah> Thredbo/Jindabyne > Bateman's Bay
Any thoughts on:
Any other insights from the great PP Hive mind? Is it worth a detour or should we just sit on the freeway?

Any thoughts on:
- H'ville to Jindabyne via Murray River Road vs Murray Valley Highway?
Missing out Thredbo altogether and going via Tooma Road/Snowy Highway to Cooma? - Cooma> Batemans via Cooma Road to Braidwood vs via Bega?
- Jindabyne - Snowy River way to Jimcumbilly - monaro hwy - Snowy mountains highway> Princes Highway > Bateman's Bay
