  • Great 4WD area for Gold Coasters, hundreds of hectares of tracks of varying difficulty.

I went up Ormeau (off Shaws Pocket Rd, great in there now) last Saturday and came across 2 bushies in their 4by's. They offered to show me a 4WD area that's just covered in tracks so I agreed to follow these strangers into the bush (yes, I thought I may be murdered and my car stolen but was not to be). Anyway off Plunkett Rd (Google Map it) is the start of just dozens of tracks. On my GPS in the car in showed as Steele Rd and some proposed roads for the future. The aerial shot of it using Google Maps is just huge. Tracks everywhere. Was a great day out and now I know where it is will definitely be going back.
    Here's the map capture.

We entered from down the bottom of the pic and traveled north.
Most tracks have an easy way around, a hard way and some have the hardcore wheel lifting way round.

Thought I'd share it so more of us can get amongst it as a lot of our tracks have been closed by council, GC Water and quarry companies.

I thought much of this area was now closed, with private security, council and police patrolling the area for trespassers onto the private property sections?

I'm a little confused (which is not unusual for me Dan ) The image you show in your post is not of Ormeau but of the Yarrabilba Powerlines out the back of Logan Village. This area is predominantly private property now and although often frequented by 4wders, is also out of bounds and drivers are regularly booked for trespassing. The Tracks that you talk about off Shaws Pocket Rd, I was led to believe was totally gated off and out of bounds also due to an agreement between the local quarry companies and the Council.http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post394157

To answer the questions. The Shaws Pocket Rd section (also a track off Upper Ormeau Rd that links to the same tracks) are open. There is a parallel track and a fence to the quarry to the south (looks new) so maybe the quarry separated the tracks, 1 for us and 1 for them. I checked with my dad who is also a 4WD'er and has worked for GCCC traffic dept for over 15 years and he has no issues with anyone going there. There are no signs around saying you can't either. There are plans 1 day (1 day in GCCC terms we all know is never) to make it a public road from Upper Ormeau Rd to Shaws Pocket Rd so people don't have to drive all the way around the mountain. Obviously the people that live in Shaws Pocket Rd don't want this to happen as it'll make their little quiet street a thorough fare.

Craig, you are right, it is the Yarrabilba Powerlines track(s). There are no longer "Trespassers will be Prosecuted" signs anymore. The place had plenty of 4WD's and trail bikes when we went there. According to 4x4 Earth the signs came down a few years ago and visited plenty since.

Update on the powerlines track. Went out again today by myself (well 1 car) and my brother in law was driving. He slipped the left side off the top of a rut into a mud pool below. Stuck it up on rear diff and front bash plates. Tried for 30 mins to get it out and some trail bikes came by.... with the same colour bikes... and same clothes. Yep the cops. Closley followed by a 4wd police dual cab. The cops informed us it was private property. I explained there were no signs at the entrance we came in. He took my details and another officer took photos. They then snatched us out and told us which is the exit they want us to use and went on their way. No fine thank god. In exiting there are small private property signs on some exits but not the entry on Plunkett Rd.

                        Stay out of it!

I pic of the fun. My youngest not looking happy.
