  • Vic High Country trip planning suggestions

I'm planning a trip from Sydney to the Victorian high country for the Easter period break. Unfortunately this didn't align with the upcoming GTG...Bugger!

I've read through a few blogs on people's trip and one particularly from a fellow Sydney sider Pradopointer, Michael http://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info...hp?page_id=882

I've already downloaded the Hema 4WD maps for my iPad but would anyone recommend a particular book of guide describing the tracks including technical rating and so forth for each track? Seeing as how my family and I will be travelling alone, I wish to map out the the tracks and agenda for the trip as I'm unsure of what tracks could potentially take us out of our comfort zone (as a solo traveller).

Can anyone recommend, or know of a track guide for the area?

    Cheers,
    Darren

I have the Hema Victorian high country atlas and guide, it has stacks of info on all sorts of stuff as well as maps and track ratings and details on a lot of the popular tracks.

Anything by Ron and Viv Moon is also usually good value.

    Cheers Andrew

As per AJ120 the Hema Victorian high country atlas has great coverage and info. For more detailed stuff checkout the 'rooftop' maps of the specific area you are interested in.

Yeah I also agree with the above, the Hema high country atlas is great, lots of nice drives well explained. Pretty much every track they describe in the book is a pretty easy drive for an equipped Prado. If you are in the main areas there will always be other cars around, particularly at easter!

I might have a couple of fairly recent rooftop maps lying around. They were donated to me so I'm happy to pass on if you want. We've just had a big clear out so can't promise anything. I'll have to check

Thanks for putting the link to one of my pages about the High Country. There are more if you go back to the 4WD pages.

We use a book called The High Country 4WD and Camping Guide by Craig Lewis and Cathy Savage. Very handy.

              Hope this helps.
