  • Has anyone done the Bunyip State Forrest?

Has anyone done the Bunyip State Forrest? Its something that is close to me for which I wouldn't mind doing a couple of day trips with the wife and kids.

I am just looking for some light 4WD tracks and possible camping locations.

    Hi Lewie,
We did the Bunyip earlier this year, there are plenty of great tracks up there, however I would advise to be careful of the trail bikes that get up around there as they seem to have their own set of road laws some of them abide by (sorry to tarnish the entire motorcycle riding community with this comment as it is the 1% rule).

It would pay to have a look at the track closures etc on the web site below as there has been a few small fires in the area during summer that may have caused some closures.

If you live near by, it is a great place to play, we usually enter via the Tynong North Road via Cannibal Creek area which is also great to finish up in the vineyard on the way home.

    Have fun

    See you out there
    Andrew

Yeah Bunyip is great fun and I head out there quite regularly. Just be aware at the moment the police are doing a blitz out there on road worthies and off track driving. The other problem with Bunyip is that it can be insanely busy and the ruts are very deep as there are other 4bys going around with 35 and 37 inch tyres. Some of the harder tracks (especially in the wet) are Andersons, Western, Tea Tree and Gentile Annie.

We will have to do a PP Run out there one weekend.

I did Bunyip last weekend and it is pretty wet up there.
          Andersons is a no go.
We did Bunyip ridge track then down Little Bunyip Trk. Little bunyip is not that steep but very slippery. We had a stock Pajero with road tyres on and he made it
But said he was a bit scared coming down L-Bunyip.
Nash creek loop is ok doing it from Andersons track end.
Little Annie is fine if not to wet also
As Nema said cops are out there checking cars and hitting anyone that is playing under the power lines. There is a main rd under the lines that isfine to use to get from each track.Just dont play in any of the rutted tracks there.

Nice map. Graz I have found that if you have a iphone or ipad you can download PDF maps free and Parks Vic have put up a heap of free maps from there parks across the state. One of the maps is of Bunyip and has recommended 4x4 routes.

Bunyip is always fun I'd Anderson's track is a no go as it is classified as a black track what means very difficult (even in the dry). Dave just let me know when you want to do a PP run out because I'am in for that. Only we need to wait till it gets a bit harder to do the tracks. Lewis even with your stock Prado with H/t tyres you can Easily those tracks mine is almost stock standard except I have S/t tyres.

I was up there last weekend for a couple of hours, didn't venture too far as I was on my own. Anderson's Track was very cut up with deep ruts; I got about 2/3 of the way up and had to reverse down, then passed another guy with 37" tyres and about a 4"+ lift and met him at the top end and he said even he struggled. It was wet and very slippery though, so that wouldn't have helped. We ended up doing Little Bunyip Track and a couple of others, which were good fun but very slippery.

I would be up for a day trip at some stage.

Its good to see so many local people from my area on here. I might try get up there one of these weekends just to have a look around. Is there any good camping spots in there that I can go check out while I'm there.

I had no idea that so many of us were from around the area either. Wondering why I have not seen the PP stickers.

There is one camping spot in the middle but normally its full of guys with Bikes who just make a mess of the place. There are some better camping out toward Nerrium if I remember.
