I'm heading there September 15 with the boys, first time with the prado. Will be good to see how it goes compared to the other 4WDs I've taken there over the years.

When we used to do 'Dads and lads' weekends they were referred to as a bush pig weekend. What are you doing wrong?

Great report guys. I haven't been north of Orchid Beach yet, your report has given me itchy feet.

The best part of the island is north of Indian head/ orchid beach.
It is a lot more remote up there and you need to be fully self sufficient if camping there.

              Cheers

Great report and photos fellas. I was very lucky to live on Fraser at Kingfisher around 1994 and absolutely loved it. Have been meaning to go back since but Alice is calling too!

                    Hey guys,

I am not lifted yet, do you think it will be a big problem?

Setting up base camp at central station as meeting friends from Sydney etc. up there for 7-8 days, so day trips are the likely go

                    Thx

Well after losing my front number plate on Fraser following some over exuberant driving, a replacement set was ordered and arrived promptly in the mail last week. Today I received a phone call from a police officer at a nearby police station asking if I was missing a front number plate. Turns out he was on Fraser a week ago and whilst searching for his own number plate, came across mine! He's going to drop it off at my address next time he's in the area....

                      Nice work I say!!!

How about that. Did he find it in "The Puddle" or out the front of Eurong?
                        Now you have a spare!
                        What a nice chap.

With a personalised message and an invitation to support the government due to operation of a motor vehicle without a front number plate?

Actually we talked about this on the way back to the barge as we were concerned that the local constabulary may wish to ping me if they were down on their daily quota... So I rang PPQ (Personalised Plates Qld) to order a replacement immediately. The lovely girl on the phone said that all was good and that I had 14 days to replace the plates from the time I lost them so I had no reason to be concerned.

                                LargeInPrado,

                                Thanks for the advice.
Although being Canadian (hence the can in auscanclan, not much beach driving there) and reading the 4wd Action magazine and a bit of beach driving it hAs been hammered into me about tire pressure. But always thankful for the advice from the more experienced.

Have the max traxs and a snatch recovery kit, sadly no winch yet

Only about 5 weeks away and jumping out of my skin to get there!

                                Auscanclan
