BTW ... who's interested in fishing ? I want to hit the beaches, over one of the next few weekends, to see if any fish want to donate their bodies to cullinary science. North - South -- don't care.
Perhaps I can help you with a bit of Research Fishnut.
Cheers

Good plan involving fishing! I'm happy doing SFA while Tammy goes fishing with you lot! I'm keen to go even on an overnighter somewhere just roughing it (no trailer etc). My knowledge of fishing spots is like trying to get blood from a stone though.
Yeah thanks for the understanding Jeff! We will get out there eventually!

Well, we're back
Thanks Jeff, Leachy & Jen, Mototrim, and Russ & Jen for a fantastic day out. Thanks also to Jeff for a great lead.
As we found our way in .... to a patch of ground that we knew was littered with really gnarly ruts, washouts and mud ..... we had no idea what was to come.

Leachy found himself a shortcut ... and went from tailend Charlie to lead in the blink of an eye.

There was still no indication that things were about to change ....

.... and then we saw it ... some neanderthal fragwit had arranged for the entire track to be graded. That's it ... Staples Line is no more.
Its going to take a year or two of heavy rainfall and convoys of buggered Nissan Patrols for this track to get chewed up enough to be challenging again

Even my fav water hole now has a culvert drain underneath ... and has become a road. The only real challenge was getting past these guys ... one of them had done a clutch.

Jeff to the rescue. "Let's move a few logs .....

... and head up here."

Nice steep climb ... with some tight twisty bits at the top.

Found a nice spot to watch the action from.

While Jeff got a bit of air.

"Hey Leachy ... no peaking under a bloke's skirts."

Then Moto showed just how easy it is with TC.

Then it was Russ' turn.

Alright so far.

Still good.

Oops. Probably shouldn't have dropped in there.

Even the MaxTrax didn't help in this mud.

Leachy to the rescue.

A quick hook up and drag Russ back to dry ground.

Here's two shots of the mud in that left wheel tack.

Then it was Leachy's turn.

... and then I just had to get a shot of the Toyota Logo shining through the platered on mud.

A bit more tight twisty bits as we had to dodge around fallen trees.

... and then we finally found a decent mud hole. The stick kept disappearing into the hole ... it was deep enough ... but it had a clean bottom (unlike Moto after that last little climb  )

Then it was a nice leisurely lunch and we got to head home early.
I've got a good mind to write to the shire and complain about the state of the track. Who in their right mind would grade a perfectly good off-road track.
Cheers
