  • Cape York 2015

    Hi all,

Just wondering who is planning to go up the Cape in 2015?

I'm thinking about leaving Sydney in the last week of May(pending dry season outcome) and go up for around 4 weeks. At this stage I'm going up with my 5yo son in a solo convoy but would be interested to see if others are planning to be up there at a similar time and thus maybe do at least the Old Telegraph Track in a group. Any takers?

I thought this would be good place to put everyone's tentative plans.

    Cheers,

    Ken

We should be up there again, but a bit later than you are planning.

    Cheers Andrew

I should be cruising around up there late June/early July (right on school holidays for some reason). We might see/pass you while you're on the way down as we head up.

Couldn't make it this year so 2015 maybe on the cards. Having been up twice around June and keeping a close eye on the weather reports this year, if I do go it will be in September school holidays. May/June is too early IMO and there is potential for tracks to be closed or water too high at crossings.

Having said that many on this forum (and many more) have gone up and had a great time, September is just more of a guarantee all the tracks will be open.

Either way it's an awesome trip and you will have a ball.

Way too early to go, big chance there is still a lot of water in the rivers and creeks. Better to leave in late June or July.

Awesome Andrew, we'll be travelling with a mate, him in a fully kitted 100 series and us in our Prado. Both silver and both running RTT. Might have to make sure I get a sticker before we go, just so I can be spotted

              Cheers

A group of us are planning to leave Port Douglas around 21 September for the Cape. Maybe I will see some of you.

I do have a sticker so keep a eye out.

                Cheers

Cool, I'll be towing something, not sure what, depends on whether I get the new toy built before then or not. I will have this other bloke tagging along with a wannabee Grande and a Tvan

                  Cheers Andrew

Yes. I suspect he will be frequently recovering you and whatever your towing as normal. I hear the recovery costs up that way are high, currently 4 ANZAC biscuits per recovery. Lets hope Nolans does not strike twice!

Sounds more like a GTG! I'm planning to take 5 or 6 weeks around mid June onwards to do a long awaited cape trip.
Would be good to catch up with a few other prado pointers along the way.
                      Cheers Ben.

I'm going up for the whole month of July with 3 other cars. I went in 2012 during the whole month of August and the water levels were low in most of the crossings. Every day was a nice and predictable 32 degrees.

On my list of places to go, but so far away from Perth, unfortunately I moved back here before I had a chance to go from Clermont, QLD. Still I will take some of the leave RioTinto owes me at some stage and make a round trip of it I think
