  • Richo's Simpson Desert trip

    Hi Folks

Part of my trip this year included a west to est Simpson Desert crossing. To save having to write one up we had a journo along to record it. Look for Richo's white 150. Have a look at it on 4x4 Australia's website.

Seea ya on the tracks, Richo

Good video. That was you with the PP sticker on the back window?

Last time I went across the Simpson, we went East - West and avoided all speed bumps coming up the dunes .

That looked like heaps of fun Richo! It's certainly on the list of trips to do. There is so much to see and the centre is such a special place.

            Great trip,

            Thanks for posting and sharing
Between that video and last cd from 4wd Action magazine it sure wets the appetite for a trip there.
Wish I could convince the wife to play more without me having to spend 3-4 times as much on the house for every dollar I want to add to the prado

I have to ask... there was a white 90 with a gold colour matched Sahara Bar in the footage. Wonder if it was my old one 😳

Wow.... just watched the video clip, can't believe that the chap that broke his main rear leaf early on b4 the simpson x'ing continued on to birdsville.... Did he have a spare leaf or did he drive it strapped in place.... if so, he's a game man imho.... but i guess he had the advantage of alot of other cars being around, but still, if it had to be recovered then $$$

Depends on the school, my daughters primary school was always fine with her having an extra week off in the mid year (to align with her older brothers 3 weeks off) for the doing of outback trips. She was asked to do a small trip report as part of it. Report and photos were then also used as for some Cub achievement badges

So what exactly was the new 200 series carrying. I saw 6 x 25 litre water containers and 2 or 3 jeries on board which equates to 33% of its total weight carrying capability (standard GVM) plus people and whatever else they had on board?

on one of my Simpson trips we saw a patrol ute with winch cable up and over the cab, stack of swags etc to the passenger side rear chassis point on full tension. He had cranked his chassis on a dune somewhere near Purnee bore and was the support truck for 6 bike riders (so had to continue)

                            Hi folks

They are a great bunch of people (Drive4Life) and always well prepared, I might even say better prepared and more professional than some tag along companies I have come across. The Hilux was held together by a drag chain that kept the axle in place and the sping in the hanger. The whole repair was done in less than 1 1/2 hours and stayed together for the entire trip.

The 200 series was only lightly loaded apart from fuel and water as the prize included catering by one of the organisors. The 200 used the same amount of fuel as my v6 Prado which had a lot more gear as I was on a 5 week trip.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.
