Trev really looking forward to catching up, after taking a promo at work I can see something g like this trip coming for us sooner rather than later, I now spend more time at hotels then at home and the new camper has not been used in 3 months...

Glad you guys had a safe, trouble free trip and keen to hear the experiences ASAP.

    Cheers Dan

Probaby best discussed over a beer, but in short we stripped the thread on the first two so I got clever and loctited the next two and they both snapped. I suspect a combo of some horrible corragations and the smart bar were the cause, but who knows.
ps got your msg will get back to you

Friend of mine swears by mounting them on the side of the bonnet using some of the specific mount brackets rather than on the bullbar will stop most damage to the antenna as there is significantly less vibration

Bet it was a GME AE4018K1 antenna? Stainless steel base with black top?

Just had a look at your Facebook page. What a great trip. My wife and I did a similar trip in 2001. It took us 3 years but worked in Melbourne and Perth for 12 months each to re finance the trip. We recently sold our business and spent 4 months traveling Qld and northern Nsw. I would be interested to know ifyouneeded to keep motivated on such a long trip. We found after 3 or 4 months we needed the structure of work again. I know it sounds stupid as now that I'm back at work all I can think of is going for another trip and wish I had of gone around the block again when I had the chance. Great effort trev looks like you had a fantastic time.

Great question no ones asked that before. I've been pretty stressed work wise for the last few years and hadn't been enjoying what I was doing (private Wealth Advisor aka stockbroker). At the start of the trip I wasn't sure I was going to go back to it and after about 6 months new I would like to be doing something else on my return.
Once I worked out what that would be I was very motivated in working through ideas, formalising business and marketing plans etc so I suppose you could say I was working on the planning of a new venture.

Trev..... 18.9ltrs/100kms is not bad at all out of the V6 towing and u don't have the concerns of the D4D injector issues either.... Makes the V6 version look better all the time, especially when u see the price of petrol sometimes 20cents cheaper like u do now....

Smart bars are everywhere in the Pibara and was by far the most common bar in the area - main thing was we didn't get to 'use' it which I'm please about.

Love to do this sometime in the future. Well done for making the decision to do it. Memories for a lifetime, I'm sure.

Two questions, how many times (if any) did you just say 'bugger it' (either due to weather or just for a change) book into a motel or similar instead of camping during your year of travels? And what was your best memory of the trip?

                        NTP

We didn't stay in motels or similiar at all. We had 20 nights under a roof with family and friends and although nice each time we were ready to move back into ' our place ie the CT'. Some of the caravan park stays were us getting a bit soft and having a warm and dry camp kitchen and games room was a nice change especially for the kids. In short no 'cheating' but we had pretty awesome weather all round.

Fondest memories were not any one moment but just the feeling of freedom in having no timeline or itinery we had to stick to. I'm normally very anal with planning but we took a conscious decision to just go where the road took us and I loved the spontaneity. That and watching the kids play in creeks, hoisting buckets and stuff up trees and just watching them develop into good humans
