(QLD) Exploring areas along the QLD/NSW Border
Decided to go for a bit explore down across the NSW/QLD border.... Headed out to Aratula, then via Lake Moogerah; Carneys Ck and up via Teviot Falls. From there is was across the Border and called into Koreelah Creek Falls campground for a bit of a look around. Headed south from there to Mt Lindsay Rd and East to Tooloom Falls. After the recent Rains, there was plenty of water flowing over the falls, making for some good photos..... After a bit to eat it was back up the road and heading west twds Legume and then sth and the town of Liston where I took the wrong turn east twds Stanthorpe.... Upon realizing this, I looked for another track sth twds Girraween instead of the usual Hwy one. Found one that took me via the back blocks of Stanthorpe, taking me past the towns local Dam and water supply (Storm Dam I think). From here it was onto Pyamid Rd and into Girraween the back way. Some fantastic scenery down around the area and called into the local NPWS campgrounds.... Not very appealing.... Called into the Info ctr and had a chat toe officer and she informed me that the better campgrounds was further up the road on the right + that there was a 4WD road through the park... I did a quick tour through the Castle Rock Campgrounds and this was a much better place to base yourself from...... From here, I back tracked a bit until I found the 4WD track off to my right. I turned and headed along the track, thinking that it can't be that hard if the NPWS lets u go through..... and I was pretty much right but still better than the blacktop. Then the heavens let loose and the visibility disappeared and also making the track that little bit more interesting..... I finally came out at Wallangarra and to my surprise, a massive area and buildings for the Armed Forces.... didn't realize that was all there. A quick zig-zag through the back streets and I was back on the Hwy and heading home, trying to beat the storm clouds behind me....
