  • Haunted Stream Track

    Hi All,

Planning on doing haunted stream track over easter, I've seen a few videos on youtube which is OK for a general idea however as we all know videos and pictures never really do the terrain any justice!!!

I would like to hear from people that have done the track i've never done haunted stream myself and i'd be really appreciative to know if a 2" lift is necessary as we will have some stock cars along for the ride,

General track conditons i have 2 newbies on this trip so want them to have a great time out and learning and would prefer easing them into it (i've tried to explain that watching 4wd action dvds and actually being out on the track driving it yourself is a different experience)

Lastly are any of the water crossings impassable if we get any decent rainfall as not all cars are fitted with a snorkel/diff breathers the later should be solved by the time of the trip.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated

What are some there great tracks to do around Haunted Stream area?

    Regards

    Michael

I did haunted stream, maybe 3 yrs ago now. Obviously conditions may be very different. All of the crossings were shallow, and at that time not having a snorkel wouldn't have mattered.
Lots of the entries and exits were very steep though, and heavily rutted, so I'd suggest rock sliders and a lift. A couple of exits had steep rocky climbs and were a bit challenging.

What sorts of cars are stock? For example a stock GU would be fine.

      Thanks for the reply Heath,

The stock cars coming on the trip are a stock 120 prado - not mine, JK jeep, Pajero and just been informed my brother in laws friend wants to come in a rav 4.... will be talking him out of it.

Then there is myself in a lightly modded 120 and my other BIL in a P38 Rangie.
If a stock GU would be OK 'd assume the 120 and the Jeep would be fine, so would only be concerned about the Paj and the Rav 4 warrior.

I did the haunted stream track in my stock standard 120 V6 about 3 years ago as well.
As heath said couple of tricky entries/exits, but nothing hard/extreme... leisurely drive through magic country.

I remember passing a standard Disco towing a camper as well. So it was doable then

We'll be heading up to Lake Dartmouth over the Easter and haunted stream track is on the cards again.

Michael. I did the haunted stream track a bit over a month ago in my FJ with the FJCC crew. I would highly recommend a lift, 32" ATs at a minimum and UVP. Snorkel is not required as the crossings are all relatively shallow. Tell the RAV4 to stay home as it would just cause everyone trouble (including other track users). Most of the track is narrow with no room for oncoming cars to pass. Low range required in most parts, though i had it in low range for pretty much the whole track. There are some steep and heavily rutted creek entries and exits. It rained hakf way into the trip and there were some parts where the FJ was sliding down ruts on the UVP plates.

I wrote a pretty detailed trip report with pics and a video in the below link. Hope this helps.

Would be good if you could report back on track conditions as I plan on doing it again before the gates shut this year.

          Cheers
