True. Can't remember what brand was Dave but you could easily see the spring hanger weld just let go, they said it took a little time to realise that it flipped. Very lucky.

Hi Anders, I am keen to tag along. Would probably just be me and possibly Owen if I can convince him.

For another example of what happened on Cape York to our Tvan take a look at the photos here:

          http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...without-a-tyre\

I'd recommend a TPMS for a trailer - with all the corrugations it's not too hard to travel a reasonable distance without noticing something is wrong behind you. Unfortunately you only tend to notice once something goes really wrong - in this case the suspension cross member bent, the broken edge of the rim destroyed the Koni shock absorber and one side started dragging along the ground...

Looks like the women are going to fly up on the Thursday and be in Cairns around lunchtime, so now just a matter of how quick we want to drive up there.

Hey Anders, as we spoke about at Fry's Hut. I'm a maybe. Checking roster and leave oppurtunities. Spoke to a couple of mates in Sydney and they might also come along for a ride?

I'd love nothing more than to come along (my boys 7 and 11 would love it) but I'd need to buy too much stuff to get ready. 2" lift, maybe sliders, fridges and we've never camped as a family (the misses prefers glamping in 3 star or more). One day I'll get to the cape though. The 2" lift is something I wanna save for in the next 12 months.
2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.
Wish list in order I'll get them: Sliders, 2" lift, E-locker, Winch bar with winch.

I'm planning on a big trip every June/July, we are planning on a cape trip this year, might just come along on this one.
Still in discussions with others, but I'd say likely.

                        No drama mate,
I have added a link to the campground at Twin Falls for those people that may wish to camp there. $23.80 a night I believe for a family.
The plan was to just camp down at Canal Creek

I'm taking 5 weeks leave.... going to take 2 weeks to get to Cairns, travelling up the east coast. And then allowing about 1 week to get home from Cairns.

Have purchased a second hand camper trailer, so hopeful to be able to take that as close to the tip as possible. Is that possible in peoples experience getting all the way to the tip, with a simple off road camper trailer?

                            Cheers
Unfortunately I am going to have to pull the pin on this trip

The old 90 series has decided that it is time for me to spend some money on her... Between now needing a new clutch (ouch$$$), suspension and diff leaks (now sorted), my finances have taken a hit for 6!

Hopefully if a trip like this is planned in future years, I will be in a position to get along.

                            Thanks all the same Anders...

                            Rob.

No worries Rob next time we see the 90 maybe it will be sitting a little higher.
We will see you on some local trips.

I decided early last year that 2016 was the year of the cape

I should stop procrastinating and just make it happen.
                                So I'm in.
                                I'll join in from Newcastle.

I have a caravan (not a camper) so I may leave it somewhere (maybe Cooktown) and tent it the rest of the way.
