  • Inskip Point, Bribie or other in July school holidays

looks like I will be picking up a camper on the weekend and trying to plan a trip for the July school holidays, I am thinking about Inskip point but don't know how busy it gets in the July school holidays, from what I have read Christmas and Easter holidays it gets very busy but I cant see much about the mid year school holidays. Does any one know how busy it gets?

    What I want is

    1) Somewhere where I can sit in my camp chair and look out at the water, not just trees, sand and other campers.
    2) Somewhere where we are not on top of other campers.
    3) Reasonably kid friendly (3 girls 3,5,7)
    4) Not to far of the beaten track (#4 will only be a 4 weeks away)
    5) Not to big of a drive from the GC

The other place that springs to mind is Bribie as I can book a designated campsite and is a bit closer, has anyone been to both and can compare or has any other suggestions as just about anything north of Brisvagas is pretty much new to me. Probably looking to avoid a barge trip due to point 4 and cost.

    Thanks

Most of Bribie's campsites are in behind the dunes. Difficult to see the water. The beach is also quite skinny so difficult to let the kids play on it when most of it is being taken up with 4wders. If you're self sufficient for showers and toilets or willing to drive for them, camping on the beach just south of double island point (teewah beach camping area) ticks all your boxes. Nice and private and you can choose a spot anywhere within about 7 km's so find the right mix of shade and wind protection versus view of the ocean. Plus there won't be many others around this time of year. The plus side up there though is that there is plenty of room on the beach for the kids to play up near the dunes and the 4wders to drive 100 feet away near the water. If you're not self sufficient for showers and toilets, there's showers up at freshwater campground 5k's away you can use (dollar coin operated) and toilets too. Beautiful spot, one of my favourites.

I agree double island is much nicer then bribie, alternatively inskip allows dogs and is also very nice in different ways. It is closer to shops if necessary and rainbow beach township which may suit more with young ones if you need something. DI is more secluded and you will feel like you are a lot further away then you actually are

Bribie = mozzies and hooligans with chopped up hiluxs and patrols. It's an awful place.
Inskip point is 95% the trouble of Fraser to get there without the benefits, can get very very busy at short notice.
Noosa north sure, 95% of what fraser offers, 50% of the effort and cost.

We went to Inskip for the July school holidays 2013, but to get a good spot we cheated, we camped up there the weekend before the school holidays and left our stuff there in a good spot overlooking the water and came back the next week. There was definitely no sites directly looking at the water by the first Saturday of the school holidays.

This year we camped at Inskip after first spending 5 days at Fraser, because a couple of us had to work a couple of days of the next week. We managed to find a spot with water views, somebody packing up and leaving, just luck.

Every time I go to Inskip I look at Fraser and wish I was there, but with No.4 due in 4 weeks!!

Inskip is definitely kid friendly, not too much traffic along the beach, we always camp in Beagle or Natone.

We also camp a bit up Double Island, Cooloola, Teewah, because its easy to get too but on the weekends if it is a nice day you need to watch the kids on the beach because the traffic gets pretty busy.

            Regards Roger

              Tim,

I have stayed at Inskip a few times and recommend it.

We always stay at Natone as it is a it more beach and 4wd to get into so no caravans make it in there. Not difficult but can be soft. With the rain in the last little while I would not see that being a problem.

Time the tides and jump on beach just after leaving Rainbow and pull up to a nice beachfront camp site. I have found people leave you room here as opposed to the site farther up the point.

Bit of a walk to the surf but worth it. Easy to drive up the point farther to some calmer water if needed with the smaller kids.

Again easy access to Rainbow, you can get water just as you leave town at a tap for the campers so no need to travel there with lots, or worry about refills of water or beer.

Usually lots of kids around for the little people to play with.

Teewah, Cooloola is great but need to be a little more self sufficient. In saying that supplies are not too far away into Noosa north shore or a little trip to Rainbow if tides are in your favour.

              Have fun

              Pierre

If you do end up staying at either inskip or teewah, Make the effort for a day trip to the north side of double island point. If you're at inskip, you'd have to come down the freshwater track (well signposted start is about 4k's south of rainbow beach and it's not a difficult track) as mudlo rocks are almost impassable even at low tide at the moment. It drops you on the beach just between the teewah beach camping area and the point. Or if you stay at teewah camping area, just head north right to the point and take the Leisha track across to the other side of the point. The leisha track is just a couple of hundred metres and recently done up but it drops you on the north side of the point at some beautiful huge lagoons that the younger kids love and even the ocean is far calmer. Throw out and awning and bring lunch anda frisbee and you'll have a pretty good day of it.

Inskip point is always my choice for nice week or two. Close to shops so you don't have to take a heap of frozen meat, and always like to be close to a bottle shop.
If you get up there mid week before the school holidays you will be almost garrenteed a view of the water, otherwise it can be a little difficult. I was up there a couple of days before the recent long weekend and got a beach front spot big enough for 3 tents, a camper trailer and a camper van. The Tailor should be on the chew by then too.

Just came back from a few days at Teewah beach and had a great time, thanks for the suggestions, did the trip to the north side of double island point and it was also well worth it. Now for the next trip but it will have to wait with number 4 now just 3 weeks away.
