I can't imagine going all that way and not partaking.

If you haven't done so before and you have time you can stop at Farina between Maree and Lyndhurst.

It was once the railhead and there is quite a volunteer project being undertaken to repair some of the old buildings and mark out the narrow gauge and standard gauge line including the triangle they used to turn the train around without a turntable.

There is an underground bakery working sometimes.

There is also a reasonable campground with a hot shower if you light the donkey.

The underground bakery (at Farina I think) is now closed) I understand it opens around school holiday times. Note it closes at 4:00PM when open, very annoying when you pull in at 4:02PM.......

        It is at Farina.

When I was there last year I thought the bakery was open when the big group of volunteers was doing their winter restoration work.

I am fortunate that I can travel outside school holidays so I am sure it was well outside the hols for the populous states.

We camped there and the fresh baked bread and buns and things on a cold winter's morning was wonderful.

Still trying to work out which way to come home...

How long would it take to go up the Birdsville Track, turn off at Warburton Crossing and go up to Poeppel Corner via Warburton Track/K1 Line then across to Birdsville?

Is that slow going or fairly quick?

Poeppel Corner to Birdsville would be a full days drive, cant comment on the K1 as I have not been on that track, other than to point out it runs with the dunes so should be a bit easier and quicker than the East West Tracks.

              Cheers Andrew
