Old Coach Rd (Maytown Rd) 2015

I'm planning to do the Old Coach Rd or as some may know it the Maytown Rd North to South.

There are 2 cars so far My 120 and a friends Hilux. If there are any Prado Pointers out there that are interested in tagging along that would be great.

We will be leaving Townsville QLD on the 13/11/15 and should, all going well be back home on the 15/11/15 (1 Day to do the Track)

If there are any that have done this iconic track already and have any advice feel free to leave a comment.

Great track. We did this track 3 weeks ago Sth to Nth.. Where are you looking at Camping? We stayed at Dog Leg Crossing which is on the Sthrn side, reported as a nice grassy and shaded area. (Nuh!!) it was dry, dusty and hot. It'll certainly take a very full day to do this one. Take an extra day to slow it down and enjoy it more so you can have a good look around Maytown and its surrounds. A fascinating place with loads of history.

Would love to take more time but its time that's just not there. Might be able to get to Cairns after work on Thursday and do some of the track Friday

Have done this track twice. 2010 and 2006. Both times towing my camper with different cars, 80 series then the 120.
We averaged 5 kph over 8 hours to do 40 km. Never needed recovery just slow going. North to south. Camped close to Maytown beside the river.

This was 2012. Great fun, most low range I gave ever done in one day, always wanted to go and do it since my old man did it in the 70's in his Holden powered Land Rover, and he nearly left it there. I have been slack, since it's just up the road.

Yeah, it must have been a bit tight getting through the trees at the north end towing. We saw a gent from WA towing his Jayco through with a Ranger, he did have some damage, but he was nearly through when we met him.

TurboD4D, If you are going in November, that's the prime time for thunder storms around here, so take extra food, you could possibly get stuck between crossings. The good news is the streams will go down pretty quick out there, the bad new is the Palmer and the Little Laura Rivers may not. There has been at least one chopper rescue out there of people stuck by rising rivers.

Coming from Townsville we forget what rain is. The photos look great!!! Cant wait to do this track

Yes thats the spot. On the Palmer. Only we did North to South and camped the previous night near Laura.
