  • SouthOZ get together

Right SA Prado Pointers, time to get of our A****S and organise a get together.

    Lets hear the ideas??

Maybe a cruise and bbq just to test the water (In case we all hate each other  )

Or maybe a day trip to Morgan Quarry or Loveday? (with lunch at Overland Corner)

    Mick

PS. I'm busy with work next three weekends so we have some time to plan ....

    Mick,
all for it if you can get people together. Lovedays and Morgan are probably both good day trips but having been to both recently I would prefer somewhere else, just not quite sure where to suggest being relatively new myself. Haven't done a lot of sand driving yet so if anyone could suggest a good day trip to a beach with a few distractions for the kids that would be good. Always in for a picnic / BBQ and it might help with the socialising side of the get together.

    Cheers

We will be down in delaide for the week starting the 29th of June. Would really only be able to do a day trip on the following Saturday the 06 July.

But able to meet up during the week for a BBQ etc or a social GTG.

Here's a couple of places I haven't been but are possible day trips out of Adelaide:

        http://www.saundersgorge.com.au/

Saunders gorge looks ok for standard vehicles, But @ $45 it seems a little costly for what it is and this may put some off.

        http://www.parks.sa.gov.au/parks/san...ID=DeepCreekCP

Deep Creek has (So I've been told) some very mild tracks, some good views and camping areas.

There's not much in the way of off road immediately around Adelaide so
another idea is a drive up to Mt Crawford Forest for a BBQ (It's kid and dog friendly)
If we all hit it off we can plan a weekend trip to a better location for some real off road (Flinders/Robe/Border track/Sunset NP)[/quote]

I'd been keen on a meet somewhere. I'm away on a work trip next weekend (talking the Prado for some fun) as a team building exercise. During this time we are trying to unite against the common enemy of something like that.

I wouldn't be available for a Saturday at the moment. The kids have too many thing on and we tend to be a taxi service for them but Sundays are usually cool.

I think Lofty would want to join in but from his posts I believe he is away for a bit.

            Fellow SAPPers,

A Saturday or Sunday with some notice and I'd be keen to GTG. Also being new to 4wding I'm afraid I don't have any suggested destinations. However I attended a non-toyota 4wd club weekend at Peake near Tailem Bend and am afraid i may have become addicted. Had a ball

            2nd attempt and success!!

Picture linked as above allowed forum size. <Mod>
Is this a better size sorry. Yorkes

                Hi Guys.

I’ve never been there, but Peake is meant to be sandy and have a few good hills. It might also be a good place for some of the “new to 4x4” guys to test out their trucks with minimal risk of bending them.

Saunders is very… easy and is more of a guide your-self tour around the owner’s property.

Loveday has some fun areas and the comp track (but you will need some lift to do it).

And then there is Morgan that has a mix of mild to “bugger, I’m going to need a spotter to get out of this without really damaging something”.

Mav. Did you mean Saturday July 5???

My vote would be for Peake (if it's not booked out), Morgan or Loveday (in that order) and Saturday July 5.

                Paul.

                  I'll second that then...

Saturday July 5 is good for me.

A quick google seach found nothing on Peake, anybody got any links/pics/more info?

Peake sounds good to me and I think that Sat 5th July may also be free at the moment.

                          BUMP!

Looks like Morgan is our most likely destination as it has something for everyone, both standard and modified vehicles.

Loveday costs $45 and to do the comp track requires a suspension lift which will put some off.

Mick, I was up there two weeks ago and did the competition track without any lift in a Prado. It was slow going in some parts but no real problems. Did lose my number plate in one of the mudholes though.

I am sure the track changes depending upon Tony's whim though so other times may be more difficult and as you say may require some lift. The other area further away from the shed is a different story though. Lots of lift, good approach and departure angles and good power are essential.

As for Morgan I don't really have any problems with it. As you say, something for everyone.

                              Cheers
