Re: TRIP REPORT : Long Weekend to Bendleby Ranges SA

Got back Monday afternoon from a fantastic time up at Bendleby Ranges. headed up there on Friday with my son and stopped at Orrorroo to meet NTPRYCE and family on their trip from Darwin to Canberra. Was really nice to meet them and I hope the rest of their trip was run and exciting.

We arrived up at Bendleby to find we were in a different camp groun to last year. River Bend camp ground (No 5) which was a wonderful spot. First thing we did was get a fire going as it was getting cold. We arrived about 4:30 and over the next few hours the some more of the group rolled in.

We didn't have a big group but it was pretty much the right size. In the group there was my 120 series, a mates 2003 100 series, a friend's series 1 Disco and the local pizza guys stock 200 series.

Saturday morning we headed into the Bendleby Ranges and travled along Gum Creek driver, up North South Ridge out to Quarry Springs. Then along the Kokoda trail western section to Dinnertime Springs. From there down along Gum Gorge and over to Ham's Dam, then around to Gum Dale and back to Gum Gorge Road before heading up along Pine Drive and finishing off doing the eastern end of Kokoda Track. Was a great fun day. A couple of us descided to have a muck around and a look at the mud in the Test Track. On the way I bumped into BLACKVX (had arranged to meet him up there).

An extra rocked up in our group on Sunday in a 100 series with a crazy 6" lift running 35s (He completed in one of the Music and Dust events up at Loveday a few years back and can been seen on the DVD from Tony). We were booked into the Hungry ranges at about 11 so first off we headed up Link Track, across North South to Quarry springs and down Kokoda track east. From there we meet up with Andrew (BLACKVX) in his resonably standard 120 (Alloy Bullbar and Maxxis AT tyres) and took off into the Hungry Ranges. The route through there was fun and we took the North Fence track follwed by Quartz Gorge then down the Back Track to Ridge top.

From there we heaed along the East Fence Track to Billy Goat Ridge which will all headed straight up. No one had any issues with that track which was good altough a Holden Rodeo looked like some of the rock ledges where giving him some trouble. At the end of Billy Goat Ridge we turned up the Front/Back track start and headed to a new lookout sitting between the two tracks. Then did a trip around Back track and finished off with Front Track. After that much fun we headed back to the Bendleby Ranges for a quick trip up Link Track, North South, Quarry Springs and Kokoda Track East (again).

The location we were in was great for a quick off road fix around the more challenging part of the Bendleby Range. Sunday night they had a big bonfire at the station house shed with a band playing. I suppose if I've thrown back a few more Amber Ales I might have enjoyed the flat tone but my sone was tired so headed back to the others at the camp fire.

Monday morning we had another quick fix (yet agin) up Link track, Quarry Springs, Dinner Time Springs and Kokoda Track before packing up and heading home.

Track Log from the Weekends fun:

Bendbelby ranges is not the cheapest place to stay but I think it's worth every cent. The setup is great and well organised, the tracks are fun and challenging and leaves you feeling like you have accomplished something. I would highly recommend heading there for a weekend if you are around. One day is not enough but you can comfortably do the lot in two days and feel very rewarded for it.

    Will post some pictures tonight.
