Spent a weekend with a few fellas from work along in the Ngarkat Conservation Park, south of Pinnarro near the South Australian and Victorian border, travelling along the Border Track recently. Great fun but the funniest thing was that two fellas who went with us attempted this on Mountain Bikes.
The track is only about 80kms and you could complete in a day but makes for an enjoyable two day trek. We left Adelaide on the Friday night and camped at the norther end of the Conservetation Park. Cost is $5.00 per vehcile per night while in the park. Facilities include a long drop and fire places but you must bring your own wood. Would have been nice to see a bin in there but you can't complain for $5.00.
On the Saturday our intrepid riders set off about and hour before the two cars. They were probably cursing us aftre a few minutes ride since the track is all sandy and not really suitable for riding.
The track is reasonably narrow and sandy so if you don't want the occasional rubbing over the paint work I would recommend to not head that way but you should have a 4wd either. A large section of the track is also one way (North/South) so you shouldn't have any issues with traffic comming the other way altough on the two times I've been through there has been a mass of trail bikes heading through who don't seem to care about life of limb and will travel which ever way they want. Some parts do firm up reasonably well but there had been some rain through the area prior to our trip so the travel wasn't too bad but not solid either
The first day is really just sand with a few hills which can be a lot of fun altough the most challenging hill has been detoured since it was getting fairly cut up. Went there about a month and a half ago and had some fun then. The following link has some shots for an LCOOL trip through there along with some videos of people failing on "Hell Hill"

The riders only made it about the first 28kms. There comments where along the lines of
They finished their ride at Trig Hill
We stayed over night past the southern end of Nagkart in a camp ground call Redbluff. This is a really nice and well setup camp ground and includes a long drop and fire places. Fairly large area so can cater for big groups
The next day you continue heading south but the sand finishes up and there are some fun bogholes to travel through. Fairly easy going but they where wet and slippery.
Opps, I'm stuck. Better get some real tyres instead of the stock Grandcraps that everyone seems to badmouth
Oh, Steve is stuck as well with real chuncky tyres. I guess I don't feel so bad now
Nothing like a bit of mud
The Border track is a good fun trip, is family friendly and makes for a good weekend away from it all.

This is the hardest thing I have ever done
It's like riding along the really really loose sand at the top of the beach all day
