Originally posted by wengnutsMatt, thanks for making an effort. Although it was a very short day for you, it was good catching up at the BP.
we stayed up there Sat night, and woke up to see this.
packed up camp and drove down to meet up with everyone. followed a few up to the the first lagoon where I stopped to shoot this.
spent some time reassembling the jeep which has seen better days.
and cruised onto the 4th lagoon to get this shot.
tried to bog the prado...
but that was just an illusion.
little further up I saw a guy standing on the dunes waving what I thought was a red bra, then saw he was holding jumper leads. So I stopped to jump start him. Could only get the starter motor to click click click... tried putting the jumper lead straight onto the starter motor (thought it might be failed solenoid) but decided to snatch him down hill to to a pull start on the hard sand. Mr Lux offered his snatch strap, I declined, thats not a snatch strap.
I said - "this is a rated piece of recovery gear..."
the recovery took a while, and reminded me just how easily a simple recovery can become difficult.
Earned a bottle of rum for my troubles and a slightly smoked up clutch. Wont do it quite the same way again.
Met up with Mr Maxtrax who had been bailing some clown out at the beach entry. (must try those maxtrax out sometime, keep hearing good things about them) At least when they are still attached to your car by a strap they cant bolt as soon as they get unstuck.
We caught up with the convoy just as you guys were leaving the beach for the inland track, I wanted to have another look at the forts.
Apparently they dont want people getting too close to the forts?
It is worth a look, if only to imagine how cool it would be if it were maintained and you could rent a room there.
The contrast in vegetation behind the dunes is amazing.
The inland track was pretty soft and slow going. If only someone would clean it up. Found this piece of sand mining equipment.
Maybe they are up to something we hadn't heard about. Sand mining on bribie??
Caught up just as most were leaving the lunch spot.
and found some flowers on the way home.
Spotted an eagle, goanna and kangaroos during the day as well, but too fast for the camera.
Now I'm back in the city and dealing with traffic, I wish I had one of these
