Brisbane-Ekka day trip - glasshouse mountains - Wed 13th Oct

skipp the ekka sideshow alley, come on up to look around the Glasshouse Mountains.

meet 9am at the Matilda petrol station on Steve Irwin Way, I'll be heading up the Gateway Freeway from Kingsford Smith on ramp.

I'm looking to avoid the deep mud and find some technical challenges.

Just a suggestion, if you've never been to GH, perhaps get on 4wdaction.com forum and tag along with them.

GH have lots of mud hole, some deep enough to swallow a prado. There are also lots of tracks with deep ruts and lots of wheel lifting. Try not to head out there on your own.

yes, one and the same. have seen some of the mudholes, spent a couple of hours snatching a nissan out of the bog, only to drop a wheel into a rut on the way out. Have hand winch now, have had to use it already, and looking for ground anchor next. (that will make a thread on it's own).

Might be a quiet day up there as the regular Glasshouse guys are north coast based and dont have the day off. Besides, I want to see what other prado's can do

pretty sure I haven't found either of those two, need someone to show me.

Did the short steep track near the firewatch camera just before sunset last night (remote monitoring camera and antenna tower - say 50m @ 35 degrees up). Couple of short nice steep tracks around there.

Got partway up the rock step a few meters away, nerves, darkness and sanity caused me to stop after this pose.

that's the main powerline track. although a std 4by with good flex can do most of the tracks at GH, a locker of some description would come in handy.
