Polletti's must have been majorly improved. Last time I went down there (towards Jamieson) the ruts were so deep if you fell in you weren't getting out! I really miss the Victorian high country, seeing those pics reminds me of my younger days. FJ40 with 400 cubic inch Chev, 33" tyres, no heater, no power steering and a white knuckle ride down Mt Terrible. Ah the good old days. Frowned on today but I never left home in the winter without my diamond pattern snow chains. The best thing since sliced bread when the snow got icy!

It hasn't been a bad track for a few years now, (unless all the ruts were filled with snow :lol: ) It is pretty smooth and just a nice easy 4wd track (unless there is ice on it)
We did think next time we might throw the chains in

Looks like absolute great fun. I'll certainly be giving that a go after I've got a few more bits on the Prado. Have a few friends with quite capable 100 series so it could be a good trip for us.

Snow driving is just so different from anything else - love it. I'd like to know about the Max Trax too - it's the one main accessory my wife jumped up and said "I think we should get some of those" about. Then I looked at the price and hence haven't got them yet. It seems a bit expensive for a track which can be made out of anything if really needed but in snow only the purpose built things would work I'm guessing.

I'm a huge fan of snow chains. They'll do far LESS damage to the track if used at the right time.

Does anyone know if there's anything suitable for the front on the Prado yet?

A friend came up with a cheap maxtrax alternative. The grid style plastic milk crates. Cut them up and join a few sides together with some strong cable ties or similar. Sounds like it probably would work OK, but I haven't tried it yet

I would have thought the strength over the full length of the Maxtrax would have been what made it work so effectively. Something more compact would be good so I'd be keen to see how well the milk crates work

I have just done the same as above in the hope that Chris can get his Surf out of the mud himself after having to retrieve him 3 times last week. He just does not seem to learn!!!!

I suspect he'll learn when for some reason you're not available and he has to pay for a tow out... mind you, that's when mates come into the picture

liked the idea from the milk crates...
anyone tried chains on front of a prado that has been suspension lifted &/or body lifted? I'm going to do a trial fit in a week or two, will post results.

Any news on the chains on the front?
