Thats amateurs weekend. We'll be at the races Joey. The next weekend is ok but the last W/E in September is AFL grandfinal, when we have about 15 people at our place for a quiet footy arvo.

      Cheers

What's the run up the CREB track like? We'll be up that way in a couple of weeks en-route to the Cape. We would be leaving Cairns on the morning of Sept 8. We were tossing up the CREB track. We'll be travelling with 2 Prado 120's towing camper trailers and a Hilux with a rooftop tent.

I have heard to keep away if it's wet but is it achievable in the dry with trailers?

What sort of time does it take to traverse from Daintree to Lion's Den via the CREB track.

            Any info appreciated.

Between the millions of corrugation to get to the OTL, this track is one of the highlights of the Cape. But as with the OTL you need to go prepared with suitable vehicle, recovery equipment and experience.

Trailers are not allowed because the track is so narrow and so steep in sections. The main problem is if you meet an oncoming vehicle and need to reverse or need to turn around. There are quite a few spots where there is only enough room for just a vehicle. To give you an idea, one of the cairns boyz (Joey ??) put up some picts the other day which show similar conditions.

I still don't know why this road does not have a timed directional limit on it between the last private property and RM falls tournoff i.e. 2 hrs north, 2 hrs south.

In the dry it is pretty easy but the slightest rain makes things a bit exciting

Times are so variable with track conditions and how many times you stop. There are a number of LO between Cairns and Cooktown, including all the popular ones on the hwy and a number of falls and small towns.

The Daintree village pub is a great spot for lunch

Geoff you'd be looking at the better part of a day to travel from Daintree to the Bloomfield track via the CREB and onto the Lions Den. As Spurio said, I wouldn't take a trailer up there due to some really tight bends and narrow sections. If you can sort out the trailer problem it is a trip not to be missed. Check with the locals before you go to make sure it hasn't rained. There is an EPA office at Mossman on the way to Daintree. Trust me it can be way too exciting if it is wet.

                Cheers

I'm thinking of coming up from Brisbane, doing the creb and poking around the area while there. allowing myself 2 weeks - 2 days to get up then 2 days back.

What else would you reccomend without going all the way to the cape?

I'll be travelling light, 2-4 people in 90 series prado with swags, loose plan to do bushwalking for 1/2 day, drive 1/2 day. Only have hand winch, various straps, shackles, shovel, AT's and 40mm lift. I'm accepting some minor dints/scratches inevitable.

May be silly/stupid question - but is it safe to roll out the swag on the ground in croc country? I'm leaning towards staying off the ground (hammock?) and not camping within a couple km of rivers/water, tho that might be unavoidable.

                          Deetoy,
Suggest you do the CREB, go on up the coast road to Cooktown and then maybe try Bathurst Bay/ Cape Melville and across to Lakefield National Park. Obviously there is heaps to do around Cairns & Port Douglas if you want to return to civilisation.

                          Cheers

The tablelands has heaps of really scenic places and waterfalls to visit if you are into that kind of thing. Also heaps of camping places too. Most roads are very good.
The croc thing, stay at least 50 yards away from the waters edge and you should be right in swags. Dont go down to the water at night.
