We are leaving Ringwood (Victoria) at 6AM Sunday morning with one pit stop for fuel, breakfast and recruit others that are coming from Pakenham area.
As mentioned previously, good tyres are absolutely required. If you turn up with standard road tyres, you will not be winched up hills (because we will be winching you all day). Would recommend snorkel as well. Some level of 4wdring/car handeling experience is preferred.
The tracks that are planned:
Gladstone
Deep Creek No 2
Deep Creek No 5
Bark Hut
Porter Creek
East West Divide
Stoney Creek 2
Stoney Creek 3
Big day planned. The first 3 tracks are optional. Might do them on the way back. Please be advised that we covered mostof these tracks 3 weeks ago and I guarantee an awesome day. No bush bashing required.
My mate Alan (GQ Nissan) and I had a ball. Left Ringwood at 6AM and met up at the new BP thats located 10 mins out of Pakenham. The toasted egg and bacon sandwich's are awesome from this place.
We covered all up 400kms in the day - too many to be honest. This trip was planned to cover tracks that we previously missed as we spent way too much time on one hill last time.
The tracks varied from extremely steep (with good traction), to just plain boring...
After lunch we headed past Thompson Dam (awesome views with a deep river crossing on the way) to Aberfeldie, We did this track (not sure the name), and went down to a creek and then a clib back up to the road again. The climb from the creek was that steep with rocks that the Nissan could not get half way up. As he backed down, we walked beside him and as he slid out of control we would throw large rocks behind the wheels. Thrilling stuff...
We turned back with a big task by back tracking over the creek again and a steep climb back to the road. We both got up but was very exciting.
We finished the day on top of Mt Matlock. There was covered in 1m of snow. Awesome driving/plowing through the fresh snow!
All up, awesome day had by all. Rolled back into Ringwood at 8PM.
Next trip (camping) planned for 18 and 19 October for Licola. Will post another thread.
