Well done guys. Hopefully the track will be open next year when we do the Cape run again. We are going to attempt it with Camper Trailers if the weather permits.

Just a quick note also, you actually aren't suppose to take photos of Meg Falls especially put them on the web. It is one of those aboriginal areas that you aren't suppose to take away anything from the area (inc photos) out of respect for aboriginals. But anyway, what's done is done. Thought I would let you know.

The tracks looked nice and greasy, which I am guessing you guys wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

          D4DPrado,

There's a limited window as to when the track is open, so you will need to make sure you organise your trip around the time it's open. Also I wouldn't recommend doing it with anything in tow especially if it's wet. It wouldn't take much to get dragged over the edge of a hill by your trailer when it's greasy, and not to mention meeting cars coming the opposite direction and having to back up. I'm not sure that the EPA even permits towing trailers along the track. I guess you'll find out when getting your permit.

Also there's no pics of roaring meg falls in the thread... Just pics to the north of the falls

Hmmmm, interesting D4Dprado, where did you get this information from ?

Other than a permit to camp and traverse RMF this is news to me ?

As Crammy and the Managers of the track have pointed out, trailers are not recommended due to the steepness and narrow width of the track. I would suggest you would attract more attention taking a trailer through the CREB than taking a photo of the falls.

D4DPrado is correct in saying that photos are not supposed to be taken of the falls. There are plenty of signs there to indicate that no happy snaps are to be taken... I'm sure there's plenty of photos floating around of them though. They are magnificant falls which deserve to have their photo taken! Another thing is that if you're a male you're not supposed to go there either! It's a sacred spot for aboriginal women...

I know there were two golden rules broken the day I went there!

Absolutely agree about the wet track on the CREB. Have seen plenty of footage of the track when wet and dry and it definately looks challenging. Trailers are not recommended to go through, though they are permitted. Just check out the below link. The Gall Boys towed a double axle Off Road Kedron Caravan through there in August this year and they have done it before too.

                  http://www.thegallboys.com/Far%20NQ%20H ... 0Page.html

Although challenging, it can be done. But let me give you the hot tip, it would have to be a dry track for me to tow the camper through.

I learnt something in the above, I was unaware about the only female visitors thing. But hey, at the end of the day no contraversy intended, just a point of interest that I had read somewhere when we were up the Cape last year.

I would say that if you're an experienced 4x4er maybe take it... If not forget it... It's too easy for things to go bad up there. There's no frickin way I'd take that van through that was in your link... But then again I'm no expert like these guys.

                    Cheers,

Re: CREB TRACK AND ROARING MEG FALLS.pics added.!!!

great photos (1). I'm heading up that way in December, hoping the rains dont set in and I get a chance to do the track.

To give me a feel for the rain/mud, how much rain fell in the week before you went? height of the main rivers in the area?
Bom rainfall only shows last 72 hrs or a monthly record. looks like it must have been dry by the dust in the photos.

I'll probably be travelling solo (carload of passengers), no diff locks, hand winch, airbag jack, straps, shovel and AT tyres, hopefully a gentle right foot and a few tricks up my sleeve will get through.

bugger... just noticed, track will be closed for up to 6 weeks from 12Nov.
I'll be in the area up to Christmas day, but every day gets closer to the wet.

                        -----------------------------------------------------
The Wet Tropics Management Authority and Ergon Energy advise that the CREB Track will be closed from 12 November 2008 while Ergon Energy dismatles a powerline that was the original line up the east coast to Cooktown. This section of the line was switched off in June 2007 and replaced by a new inland line from Mareeba to Lakeland. However the northern section from Bloomfield south to the Telstra tower on the McDowall Range will remain and be fed from the Cooktown end.

Ergon Energy says that the track could be closed for up to six weeks while the 18km section of line from the top of the Daintree to the McDowall Range is dismantled. It is a difficult logistical exercise involving both vehicles and helicopters in extremely rugged terrain, so for public safety the track has been closed. The 68 poles and eqipment would be flown out by helicopter. The intention is to complete the work before the onset of the wet season, though any rain during the work could bring it to a halt, given the nature of the access.
                        ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1] just realised I was looking at the photos on the followup thread to this one.

to be honest mate....i wouldnt go the Creb alone , and secondly although dry when we went at tyres could prove dangerous and disasterous....
all it takes is slight rain and some of the hills are nasty..

we all had heavy duty mud tyres ans some spots were still tricky!!!!

we again did the creb this weekend past and it was dusty as...but the wet will soon be here.....

                          cheers joey

thanks for the info, I've done a fair bit of solo 4wding but less keen to be solo when remote, now taking a boat up with me so will have plenty of other things to do.
I'm told there are bypass tracks around the steepest parts of the creb, with the powerline work on at the moment I suspect they will do some track maintenance to get construction crews in and out.
Have been watching the bom.gov.au rainfall records for the area, guessing there is a fair chance rain will fall on the track and not on the weather stations. Cairns had a 21mm dump earlier this week, looks like the wet is coming.

                                Hey there

I am planning on doing a North-South run of the CREB in the second week of July.

We will be travelling alone and even though it should be dry does anyone suggest it should be OK? I'm not too concerned about the track itself but the travelling alone with just the family part. Although July could mean a million other tourists :-)

Lifted D4D on D694s - soft ones - should be OK? Suggestions?

                                Cheers
