After reluctantly leaving Coward Springs we headed south again. We briefly stopped at Margaret Siding, not much left here at all and it’s so desolate… imagine living out here in the late 1800’s… must have felt like the ends of the earth.

Moving on the next stop was the famous Curdimurka Siding, home of the (former?) out back ball.
It’s the most complete siding ruins along the track with good buildings, desalination tower and nearby bridge over Stuart Creek. It’s accessed along PAR 7 (Public Access Route) which is only 500m or so long and the ruins are easily visible from the road.

A very quick stop at the Lake Eyre South lookout was next, we had planned on walking down to the edge but another couple there with mud up to their knees put us off the idea!!
Lake Eyre South lookout –GPS- S29°.19’, E137°10.79’
The look out is on a slight rise above the lake which is amazingly 3 metres below sea level! The lake even more (16m according to our gps)

So what happens if you live out here, drink too much and spend to long in the sun??.....
Art park –GPS- S29°37.54’, E137°32.93’
Not my cup of tea but worth a look….

Last stop before Maree was Wangianna Siding. Building complete with roof but not much else around.
Wangianna –GPS- S29°39,17’, E137°42.36’

We spent the night at Maree Caravan Park. Amazingly it had grass, which was a bit of a change after all that desert!
Maree has all basic facilities, two caravan parks, hotel/pub etc…
There are some great railway relics to snoop around.
Diesel $2.26 lt.
Site at the Oasis Caravan park $20 for 2 people (powered)
