  • Cairns/Innisfail Misty Mountains - completed

Day Trip 03DEC08 - Misty Mountains (Wooroonooran Nat Park). Bordered between Innisfail, Ravenshoe, Millaa Millaa and Tully.

Mud, water crossings, rainforest and mud.

Snap shot of expected terrain -

Trip requirements - (1) EPA permit for Sutties Gap Road, also known as Maple Ck Rd. (2) Decent off road tyres capable of good thick mud (3) Sense of humour.

The topo shows that the area is loaded with old logging trails, I'm not sure which ones are closed down or grown over etc but I'm sure keen to find out.

If you're keen, let me know

Hey mate, it won't be a full day, it's an hour drive to get there, a couple of play hours tops then the run home will more likely put it closer to a half day trip or at least an early to mid arvo arrival home.

Re: Cairns/Innisfail Misty Mountains - completed

                      Why yes I did!

It was rather easy, EPA have done a wonderful job of turning old logging trails into 6 lane highways, well almost. Even the section that you require a permit for and only 4wd's allowed I could easily do in the wife's Barina.

It's very pretty though and I found some choice spots to go swimming and exploring.

A lot of the old tracks have been reclaimed by the jungle but I did find one that seemed ok that I want to go back and explore.

                      Swimming spot -

The map says there's an old logging trail here

                      But the jungle says otherwise

                      One of the obstacles

Overall, nice area to visit, not very demanding 4wd wise, but if you want a secluded area to camp or go swimming in, then it isn't bad.
