I should be good to go. Might need to rotate the newer tires off the trailer onto the car.

    Cheers,

Re: Day Trip :MUD MISSION 7 HILLS CAIRNS - 02/01/09

well it has been one hell of a day...

we started at maccas and headed off to the 7 hills tracks at mareeba.....
there had been heaps of rain so we new we were in for some quality mud action.....

then we were greeted with the water.

              this is the track in.

then it was mud and action.

crammy going in to check the depth

              james in

              kevin

              crammy

at this point we had done all the tracks and decided to head down black mountain rd and cruise home....THIS IS WHERE EVERYTHING WENT PAIR SHAPED...

we were cruising along the dirt rd when a couple of dirt bike riders came around the blind coner on the wrong side of the rd.....the next thing i saw was bits of bike and a body tumbling through the air....holly f%$#@..

we jumped out and administerd first aid while Crammy had gone for help as there was no reception..
the guy had met James ARB bar....and destroyed it!1

he was stable , broken arm and leg and a few cuts and bruises.
it took the ambulance over a hour , and they rolled in with fire brigade and police.....
well the rider seemed all right and after all the investigation were done we were good to go.

              it didnt end there......
as we where driving back down the road i heard a cracking sound.....a giant 10 tonne tree fell directly as i passed and just before james....he locked it up up i gunned to miss it....

              here is the tree.....

Well i must say i thought the rider was gone, but he was very lucky and what was a top day out really tested all....
the emergency services were great considering our location.....

Gees you guys were lucky... and so too the bike rider. You'd think they would learn a bit of self-preservation. At least you guys had the kit and ability to render first aid and get help.

I hope that James' car can get fixed quickly. :? They say that bad things come in 3s... so beware the third!

Re: TRIP REPORT :MUD MISSION 7 HILLS

It definitely was an interesting day...

The story made page 2 of the Cairns Post...as the tree had trapped JamesC, myself, the ambos (with the bike rider on board), police and firies, and press photographer. So after a bit of head scratching, I grabbed the drag chain out the back, and hooked it up to the tree, and Joey put on a show to drag the tree out of the way so that the ambos could get past.

I think the bike rider was luck James was leading us home. The impact broke off the top hoop of James Sahara bar. The rest of us have the Deluxe bars and I don't think they would of been so forgiving to the rider.

Up until the incident with the bike, it was a very enjoyable day out.

                      Cheers,
                      Kevin

Re: TRIP REPORT :MUD MISSION 7 HILLS

                        Hi all;

I've got some more pic's that I'll put up later, but first of all I want to say thanks to Kev, Crammy (and his family) and Joey for their part in the motorcycle crash.

I'm sure that the motorcycle rider would like to say thanks to Crammy's mum for the umbrellas and fan. Poor bugger had to lie in the middle of the road for over an hour waiting for the emergency services. We wouldn't let him up for fear of spinal injury.

Paper also got my name wrong, which is a good thing as it means I won't cop any stick until Monday morning when at work. Great shot of your boys by the way Kev.

As for the Sahara bar, I think it's fortunate that the top hoop had enough give in it to push back and allow the rider to go up over the bonnet. I'd say if it had been the deluxe bar, a few more things would've snapped and the riders injuries would've been far more serious. Without trying to sound like a bastard, the Sahara bar did a fantastic job of protecting the vehicle as the only damage ( apart to the bar ) was dent's in the bonnet and on the roof where the rider rolled across. There was a crack in the front plastic grill from where the loop pushed back but very minor. The bash plates underneath stopped the bike from tearing apart radiator and other mechanicals. My vehicle is still driveable. Had I not had the bar, my Prado would've been a tow job. I don't believe that the sovereign bar would've been of any great benefit either.

As for the tree, well that was just bizarre.

Just in case any one is wondering why w're lined up across a highway, it's a disused road and closed off by gates. Someone by the name of Quad (Quaid?) built the road for some un-earthly amount to service a proposed development at Lake Mitchell (which was also made by Quad). It all fell through and now the road is closed off and seems to only service off road vehicles to get access to tracks.

Glad all you guys are all okay and the damage to James Prado is not too serious, though I'll bet the bike riders learnt a valuable and painful lesson. I have not read the Cairns Post yet, but it sounds like their reporting is as accurate as ever (NOT)

It was Quaid who developed South edge and put the road in, made his cash from the Daintree etc. They opened it up to the public for one day back in the late 90's and the line up from the highway turn off near South edge stretched back for miles and blocked the highway for hours.
