My wife and I have weighed up the pros/cons with the current economic crysis and the opportunity
to work in Perth by giving up the mines after 3 years to be with family at home.
Quite frankly I will stay where I am for now haha... $18.00hr for an MR Truck drivers position !!! bloody hell
I was on that rate with a one tonne van 6 years ago, and the $18.00hr is from a verrrrry large transport company based
in Kewdale. They simply cannot be serious, how can people survive with the medium house
mortgage at around 350k these days, let alone my size mortgage
Anywhooo, decided to take my PC gear back to site, and considering its in about 6 boxes, the
airlines wouldnt take it in one hit, and you think I will go 6 weeks without PP on site...... I think
not my friends.
So I crammed it all into the Prado + 34cm TV + exercise bike and weekly bag and off I went.
Along with the usuals (tools, battery water, oil, 15ltrs drinking water 10litres coke
)
Up through the Swan Valley I go, taking in the sites of the vineyards and orchards (always gorgeous)
and up to Bulls Brook RAAF Air Base country. No planes flying sorties today which was a bit
disappointing but none the less onwards and upwards. This is where it got annoying......
From Bullsbrook to New Norcia...... ROAD WORKS!!!!!
Every 4kms approx Mr Lollypop man stopped the Flinders Red......waiting.....waiting.....
SLOW please.... and on we go again, all the way up to New Norcia which was very painful.
I had left at 13.00 and planned to be in Leinster around 21.00ish hopefully earlier. Well this
threw it out big time hahaha...
Winding my way up through the north eastern wheatbelt was rather ...... boring sadly, not much
to see highway wise until I reached New Norcia... It was liked you stepped back in time 170 years
There is a massive Monastery been there since the 1830's apparently, very old buildings. My wife
later told me that this is the place that Nuns and Priests in training reside. Even the Hotel looks
kinda eary....
I can gladly say that the Prado has been into the Outback !! well.... thats what the sign said as
I rolled past it on the black stuff "This is where the Outback Starts" or something to that effect. Visions
of Wolf Creek were floating through my head, seeing I was alone... it was justified hahahhaaa..
Into Mt Magnet big red rolled..... thinking I may stop to grab a bite....look left.... look right.....I think not.....
onwards LUCY!!!! (thats my GPS's name) kinda like KIT and the Hoff......
Then Lucy said, turn right......turn right again....by this stage that to me spells a U-turn.....needless
to say she had me worried....the SAT reception was fading and I had to resort to my trusty
Hema Map book.... Turn left she said......*Sandstone* sign appeared.... hahahah she was back
on track and honestly hasnt let me down to date, so very happy camper I was. This was around
8.00pm and still had 300kms to go into kangaroo alley and was starting to worry me as the storm
clouds were chasing me the whole way. Plus having not installed the 3rd Striker to the sovereign
had me a bit worried about side vision. The sneaky buggas bounce out at ya from 30mtrs away.
Big Red is now an official bird killer....
Mr Willy Wagtail was having a feed on an ant when he
looked up as I rounded a bend and he made the fatal mistake of taking flight in the same direction
I was....... RIP Mr Wags..... then a Lonesome Dove decided that he didn't like his hair style in the
Prado side mirror and wanted to readjust his doo at 110kmh......RIP Lonesome Dove...
I fairly poo'd my shorts as I rounded another bend this time at the same speed, when Mr Ed and his
Filly were munching on some grass by the side of the road but only raised an eyebrow as I
slipped passed them whilst the nuckles on my hands were white. Visions of the horse in the car
email I got a while back haunted me for kms ahead hahahaa.....
Up ahead around 30km out of Sandstone, I disturbed a Wedgetail dining on some road kill....
Well..... wasnt I made to feel like a mongrel and 2inches tall..... he must of heard my whistles on
the bullbar, cause as I got closer I noticed he lifted his head, exit stage left style... gated off
like a thoroughbred horse ( yes he was that huge ) and the look he gave me was astounding...
as if to say..... "How dare thee interupt thy meal". He was majestic, simply stunning.
Up around this area there has been a bit of rain, alot of floodway sides are full and green grass
fights to grow in the low lying areas... but the rest..... baron.... I could of gone the "Paynes Find
to Sandstone" dirt road, but thought not too with the Grand Craps, maybe another day......
Scooted past Sandstone and past Barrick Lawlers Mine and into Leinster at 22.00, only an hour
past the plan, so very happy. The thermo read 38'c from Magnet to Leinster, with the occasional
40-42'c up until Magnet, and the typical no hicup from the beast.
Love the Red......
Only got a couple of skyline Photos to come as soon as I figure out the Mobile phone transfer haha....

The old buildings are in New Norcia, approx 150kms north of Perth, they have tours there and such, very nice old buildings. Enjoy the look at the photos, sorry about the 1.3mb phone shots, but they turned out ok I think.
Golly....
