  • TRIP REPORT :NSW High Country Trip Ravine-Talbingo

All ACT & NSW PradoPointers - i know its late notice, but if would like to turn up for 1, 2 3 nights or even just drop in for a visit, we'll be camped out with 3 families this weekend (kids aged 18months to 9yo, so far), heading up there Friday morning:
Ravine - Top of Talbingo Dam http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&s...570557&t=h&z=9

There are plenty of camp sites in the valley, and plenty to see as well as some old ruin's of a hotel (I have limited knowledge of history of the valley). We'll be going for a drive down to talbingo and Tumut3 power station, and probably doing a loop around past Budong Falls. There is also Yarrangobilly caves close by that is well worth a look. Camp sites are on the Yarrangobilly River and Talbingo dam is close by for us keen fishermen Wink

I realise this is very late notice but if anyone would like to drop in and camp or just visit your more than welcome.

    We'll be a group with two silver 120 Prado's and a grey 80 series.

PM me if you would like more info!

    Bring your fishing rod too....

Re: NSW High Country Trip - Ravine-Talbingo 13-16 Feb

Trip ended up being a ripper! I couldn't believe how picturesque that side of the Kosciusko National Park was. In my opinion its a hidden gem.

We ended up leaving Canberra via Tharwa and headed onto Bonboyan Rd through Namadgi National Park.

Then we turned onto the Snowy Mountain Hwy and drove towards Selwyn. We stopped off in Adaminady for a quick pit stop.

We drove past the Selwyn snowfield turn off and turned onto Ravine Rd.

The scenery from Ravine Rd was magnificent to say the least.

On the way towards the campsite we saw a couple of rock avalanches. I was particularly interested in these as it was the first time I saw them.

    We also saw ruins.

Here is a pic of the rig in some long thick grass which looks as if its in the African savanah's.

A pic of the campsite from a nearby mountain.

The Yarrangobilly river meters away from our tents.

On the second day of our trip we ventured to the Tumut 3 Power Station and Yarrangobilly caves.

Whilst at Yarrangobilly Caves we had a dip in the thermal pool (which didn't feel thermal considering it was 35+ outside).

On the third day we ended up venturing home via Long Plain Rd, Broken Cart Rd, Boundary Rd and finally Brindabella Rd.

A final pic of all the rigs before we went our separate ways.

    Turnoff onto Broken Cart Rd.

...and we hit what we thought was a dead end: a fairly large tree which fell onto the track.

First thought was that the chain saw was needed, on further inspection of the site I found that we could probably go around it without any troubles.

Drove around it with ease thanks to the missus's navigation efforts. The view from the other side.

Further down the track we ended up driving onto Brindabella Rd. View towards the powerline track and Brindabella Station.

    View towards Mt Cooree.

Definitely worthwhile checking out if your up for a camp with the missus and kids. I'll be organising another trip down to this place later on this year! Thanks to the sister-in-law for the fantastic photos!

Re: TRIP REPORT :NSW High Country Trip Ravine-Talbingo

            Gday Fungi.

Great pics and what perfect timing. I am heading down that way from Sydney in two weeks. We were going to go to Deua National Park again (awesome place) but have decide to go somewhere different this time. Will be traveling with a couple of mates in a Hilux. Plan to pick them up from Batemans Bay on a friday arvo then head into Brindabella first up.

Now, can you give me some tips on where to camp for the first of two nights! My mates LOVE fishing so ideally a campsite in Brindabella near your favorite secret fishing spot would be ideal . Oh we wont be leaving Batemans Bay till 1430-1500 so somewhere not to far in would be good.... Am I asking to much??

That pic of your campsite,,, was that in Kosciusko National Park?? Looks like a great place to camp..

            Thanks

Pity it is a non-colour coded bull bar, colour coded would have looked soooooo much better!
