Speedy, I meant Leon did a great job leading the way.

It was another very successful trip. It was only successful with the support of all who attended. We had a total of 11 vehicles, a equal combination of 90 and 120 series.

The group met at the bakery in Dayboro at 10:30am. We then drove to the gantry via Mount Mee Road. It was an interesting drive, passing a group of cyclist, some peddling, others stop to throw up. It was a very steep climb that i would preferred to drive then pedal.

Upon arrival at the gantry, we chose the first available seating and bbq area to have an early bbq lunch. We were surprised to find very few people at the gantry.

After lunch, the group air down and hit the tracks. There were some interesting moments for the stock vehicles with poor ramp over angle. Overall, everyone successfully negotiated the tracks led by Snaga. As I was the last vehicle, I didn't get the opportunity to take many pictures. Here are the four I took. I'm certain someone else can fill in the rest of the details.

    Hi Folks

As a first time trip with Pradopoint members we had a fantastic day!! Firstly thanks to Wengnut and Snaga (trying to get used to usernames) for the great effort they put in. Also it was good to see that we weren't the only first timers, we noticed that everybody made a point of talking to all the other cars.

The driving was a mixture of gravel roads, close lantana, and a couple of hard core hills (these actually weren't as hard as they looked). Conratulations to Wengnut (Kel) for putting his brand new stock Suzy Grand Vitara over tracks that had Prados hitting the bash plates.

Mount Mee is a great drive so close to Brisbane, we are looking forward to the next weekend drive. As soon as I learn how to post pics I will put ours up as well.

Finally, thanks to the organisers again and we look forward to meeting all the attendees again on the next trip.

    Regards, Richo and Gay.

Re: TRIP REPORT : SEQ Mt Mee Day Trip - Sunday 1/03

Great day out for me, my brother in law, and the little fella, some well cooked snags and bacon by Kel made for a good lunch, followed by some good drivin. Like Kel I was towards the back of the pack so didn't get too many pics but here's a few

      Stopped at the Gantry

      Lunch all round

      Including some locals

I hadn't been off the side of the gantry that we did today before so was bit interesting, I left a fair bit of paint from the undercarriage on a couple of ramp overs but an ARB bar and second battery sitting on the nose of stock suspension will do that too you!

Was a bit narrow to start

Some parts the car that was 2 meters in front was lost except for a hint of brake lights

      The convoy pulled up

The only real challenge of a hill which Lethal, Wasamite and one other guy (not sure if he was part of our crew) went up

      Wasa

And the rest of us lined up ready to go around the "easier" way

And back on the road again

Then the last couple of shots I have were not of anything in particular, not because there wasn't anything interesting, but because I couldn't see anything through the dust..

Great day out, though Wengnuts and I struggled to keep up with what appeared to be the Dakar rally that Snaga was running up the front of the convoy :!:

No damage to report for me, I’m sure I’ll find a myriad of scratches down the sides when I wash it but hey, there's gotta be some benefit to driving a gold car, bit of polish and they'll be invisible!

Thanks for a great day out everyone. Hope you all had a good time. Lunch was a great way to start the day followed by some good tracks. Sorry about the pin striping... The lantana was a bit thicker than last time we were up there.
I should have some pics to upload when I get home tomorrow.
Cheers again for a great day out

Sounds like you all had a great day out. Shame I couldn't make it again. Maybe next time.

A mate of mine was up there in a white GXL 120series as the crew went past in the opposite direction.
Looks like everybody had fun. I'll be keeping an eye out for future trips.
Any ideas on when and where the next one will be?

            regards

:? Dunno... no one said anything and I was just doing the speed limit on the blacktop and about 20-30kph on the main dirt tracks :? I was actually going a bit slower than usual on the main transit tracks as there was a fair bit of traffic (a couple cutting corners  ) ... 4by's and bikes. Regards speed... I do have a habit of just finding the sweet speed for the corrugations though ops:
Or maybe it's just because I didn't have the dust problems McBain was having 8) Hey, there's gotta be some consolation prize for clearing the tracks for everyone else.

Again, sorry for any pin striping... last time Kel and I were up there it wasn't nearly that overgrown with lantana. I was even up there in early Feb (I think) and it wasn't a problem :?

Good to see no damage reported by fellow PP'ers...
My new bash plate did what it was supposed too... bashed a few things ... specifically a large rock on one of the steep descents. My shovel holder and rod holder on the roof racks were catching greenery like there was no tomorrow and unfortunately broke one of the little plastic screws but I was planning on swapping that for a wing nut anyway

I hope everyone enjoyed the tracks we went on... I didn't realise I was taking the lead car role so I just stuck to some tracks that Kel and I had previously done (my Prado, his Delica). There are still a lot of tracks in that northern section I'd like to explore so if anyone's up for it just post a trip suggestion and see what happens.

I've only just gotten home from a weekend away so I'll post some pics when I get a chance.
              Cheers, Leon

Big thanks to Snaga & Wengnuts for the day out,

Wife and kids enjoyed the steep descents  and the bottoming out on a few sections. Good company at the gantry and meeting new members which happened to live in the same suburb.

Life lesson No. 996..... don't take a dark coloured Prado (Black) through dense lantana, custom pin stripping not a good look.

Thanks again Snaga for the experience and a few learning curves. Dakar rally here we come!!!

P.S does anyone know a good polish?

Outstanding turn out for the SEQers. I would have liked to have been there myself, but it clashed with family functions.

Great to see everyone had such a good time.

As had been said thanks to Wengnuts and Jack "Snaga" Brabham ..... for a good day out although I thought he was trying to lose that pesky suzi ..

Seriously though Snaga wasn't that fast but in convoy the speed just seems to increase further down the convoy you are as you keep up.

And Richo was the third who went up that little hill, well it looked steeper in person  it must have been steep because my two girls bailed at the bottom and hitched a ride with Snaga

Anyway was fun and I might just leave the "Playdough" dirty till next time 8)

Thanks again everyone for a good day out. It was a nice change to start with the socializing and then get stuck into some driving. Thanks Wengnuts for supplying a lot of the BBQ lunch goodies... even if I couldn't wait for the onions to cook

We met up at the Dayboro bakery as usual... I came down from Maroochydore (late notice weekend away ) and drove straight past the Mt Mee entry and onto the bakery as I had orders from my wife and MIL for apple turnovers with fresh cream from the bakery... or don't bother coming home
Here's a shot of most of the cars at the bakery.

The gang enjoying the Gantry Day Use area...

                              Prados a plenty...

                              The Gantry...

McBain about to feed his son to a goanna

We left the Gantry after lunch... aired down and hit the trails at about 1pm.
Leaving the Day Use Area we headed to the northern end of the park to explore some tracks that Kel and I had traversed late last year.
First chance to engage the stubby leaver was a long, steep descent into a pine plantation (?) I think it's called Oakey Creek Rd...
Unfortunately it was a fairly tight bunch of tracks without many spots to stop and take any photos but I still managed a few.
The lineup at the bottom of the first descent...

This is the first of many descents between topographic 'pinches'... (is that the correct term?) which was straight after the worst of the lantana that everyone is talking about ops:

At the base of this hill we caused a little bit of a traffic jam ops:
Two guys came down from the right while a lone Nissan came up from the left, we managed to squeeze past the two coming from the direction we were going and gathered back on one of the main roads to works out 'where to next?'
Someone mentioned they wanted to check out a steep climb that I had spoken of earlier so we doubled back the way we came into the pine plantation and again caught up with the two cars we passed earlier. Turns out they were on a recce from the Redlands 4WD club and one of them tried the climb before a few of our cars gave it a go also.
Here's the Redlands 4WD club guy...

A few of our guys gave it a go and it proved to be no great obstacle for them either.

The 2nd section was deceptively steep... it managed to just about swallow some of the cars

The rest of us... continued on around the track to meet up with the others and made our way onto where I think people had a bit of trouble with ramp over angles.
The track continued along some very pinched terrain which followed the boundary of the plantation area. This would have been some of the best action shots but there wasn't anywhere to stop for more than two cars at a time. Did any passengers get any photos of this area? Would be great to see.
Once everyone made it out of that track we then left the area via the way we came in so it was a long assent back up to the main track and onto the Gantry day use area for a 'pit stop' and here a few people also called it a day while there was still light and happy kiddies on board

Those that remained left soon after to head back to Dayboro via some of the southern tracks... A Break, Jacky Ck Rd etc... a small water crossing to turn some of the dust into mud. I headed back to the Gantry to air up while I pointed everyone else to another air up area closer to Dayboro.

Not a bad spot to air up...

.... and some of the locals watching me...
                              Cheers, Leon
