  • TRIP REPORT: Upper Ormeau, Sat 16th May

Would anyone like to join me to explore the trails around Upper Ormeau this Saturday? I've read that it ranges from easy to absolute "Winch-me-up Scotty" extreme. I'll be looking for low-locked trails, but will stay away from the extreme stuff.

Has anyone been out there? Got any advice or recorded GPS tracks?

    The plan:
    • Meet at: Fredrick Johnson Park - Heading West on Upper Ormeau Rd, you will cross 4 Grids (two are close together so be careful you don't count them as one) then the park is just 550m on the right.[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • Date: Saturday, 16th May[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • Time: 10:30am for an 11:00am departure[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • UHF: Channel 16[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • Plan: Start at the Southern trail-head on Upper Commera Road. We will head toward the Northern Trail Head and exit at Vernon Drive. Bring a packed lunch and drinks.[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • Weather: Sunny and mild[/*:m:52thipxp]
    • Maps:[list:52thipxp]

Re: Upper Ormeau, Sat 16th May

Have been up there a heap of times, but this weekend is the school fete.

here are some google captures of the track log of the area. We went in from the North.
Being at work I don't have the google map file to post, so the images will have to do.

Do a search of the outers site (ormeau maps) and a couple of posts have the tracks labled and rated.

Thanks 4wd26. I found a mud-map on OuterLimits4x4 and posted a reference to it in the base note. Here it is from the users public photobucket album:

Would love to join your trek LFaR, but unfortunately other comittments overrule. Let us know how enjoyable/severe the run is - Pradogang (Jim) and I are always looking to undertake new challenges with the families (the wives don't like it too extreme though!!) If there are some medium section we would love to try them one day.

No worries wazamite. I'll be sure to be on PP before leaving home. Alternately, just be at Fredricks Park before 11:00am when we head off.

                    Hope you can make it.

Would love to join you Matt but we're in Kingaroy this weekend. I have the recovery kit in the back but I doubt I'll get a chance to flex the suspension
Play safe and take lots of pics for us.

We're back and I'm exhausted. This place rocks! Photos are being pre-processed and I will have a pretty good account of our day available soon.

It was fantastic meeting Waza. Somehow I mistyped the directions which sent Waz on a wild goose-chase. How he ever found us is a miracle!

Great company and a day that we must repeat. Hopefully we can find a day in the near future that suits a lot more of us, because I know you will love this place.

In summary, Upper Ormeau offered the most challenging and technical 4WD'ing I've experienced in SEQ and Waz and Rick agreed. At the same time, the terrain we chose (and at times we needed to rebuild a couple of tracks) was well within the capability of my stock GXL, though my capabilities were challenged time and time again. If you want more challenges, they are just a side-track away. Views of the coast-line, Brisbane, Moreton Bay, simply stunning. There were some seriously capable 4WD out there and it was great to see some of them in action.

                            Thanks Waz, Rick and Jaic.

                            LFaR.

Sometimes it can be a big enough challenge just getting in the first track

                              Where did you go?
Was the track log any help?
