Johnv, I would truly appreciate your thoughts on this flight - and whether or not it is truly worth it. My family is visiting the area in late June and are seriously considering all taking this flight to see the expanse of Lake Eyre - hopefully with some water and birdlife in it. 8)

      David,

Have a look at Michael's post on his Lake Eyre trip from earlier in the year. He did the flight and has comments there

I considered it too, until i realised that for SWMBO, myself, and the two kids we would hardly get any change from $800.00  YIKES! thats for a one hour flight. Spectacular i know, but thats a lot of money for an hour in the air!

Yes, it was really good, but also expensive. There were only two of us and we did the 2 hour trip, leaving soon after first light. Not a lot of birds there so early in the flood, but the lake is massive and very interesting to see from the air. The pilot took us out to the top of the lake flying low and then we did a bit of a circuit of the river mouths and returned at about 2500 feet. I'd recommend it, it might not fill again for many years (but here's hoping) If you do go, make sure you rug up as it can be cold up there.

              Re: Australia trip

Hey John best of luck. Sounds like a great trip. We are leaving from Perth in 3 weeks time heading up the coast to all points north including Coral Bay, Exmouth, Broome, Gibb River Road and Bungle Bungles, then on to the NT Litchfield and Darwin, through Kakadu to Katherine and down to Alice. Then we go to Kings Canyon and Ayres Rock before heading south to Adelaide and across the bight to Esperance, then home. All up about 4 months.

Two of us with our wives and 20 foot caravans in tow. My mate has a 200 series LC and me a Prado with my Pradopoint sticker

Might see you on the road somewhere, you never know.

              Cheers

Hopefully catching up with Johnv in Darwin sometime over the weekend. Looking forward to hearing of his Oodnadatta and Lake Eyre experience first hand, and picking up any tips he might have to offer.
