Hi All,
Well we just spent an enjoyable weekend in the East Macdonnell ranges. We wanted mostly to check out a new 4WDing Park that has been established or should I say converted by Bob Carpenter out at Old Ambalindum Station. He is doing a terriffic job at creating a place for 4wheelers to go and camp and drive all levels of tracks. He told us that he currently has over 800 kms of tracks available for 4 wheeling. There are currently 3 camping areas to make base camps at. Some wonderful country around the Station that I am sure we will be checking out in the future. Cost wise we thought it was not too bad, currently it is $18 per car per day for camping and $10 per car per day to just use the tracks. They also have cabin accommodation as well as a refurbished house that accommodates quite a few people.
Anyway after leaving the Station we went for a bit of a drive around Arltunga before heading back to overnight at Ross River. Here are a couple of photos of the old Arltunga Police Station which was built in 1912 and in use up until 1944. The first photo is the overall Police station and the second photo is of the lockup.

We stayed at the Ross River Resort Campgrounds on Saturday night, it is a really nice campground as the GTG folks will find out. I took these shots at dusk on Saturday evening, they are low resolution of much higher res shots.

The showers at the campgrounds are just brilliant, I love a good hot, strong pressure shower and even my daughter came back and said she wanted to stay in the shower all night it was sooo good! The overnight temps did drop below zero but plenty of people were enjoying campfires etc.
