  • TRIP REPORT: Sat Sep 5 : SEQ - Condamine Gorge/Rathdowney

A full day of fun and adventure with a great group of old and new friends. Thanks guys!

This trip, my camera didn't come out as often as usual... I was too busy navigating, (some would argue that point and call it U-Turning ).

The day began with breakfast at Cafe 17, Boonah. First stop was Teviot Falls lookout (actually, first stop was premature, but we got there)

    Teviot Falls:

The line-up at the Moss Gardens walk:

    Views from Carrs Lookout:

    The gang chilling out:

Stewy and Richoson look too cool:

The short walk to the base of Queen Mary Falls always manages to impress:

When this fellow's Honda grows up, he wants it to be a Prado . What was he thinking??? The PradoPoint team recovered him manually!

After finishing the Condamine River crossings, we explored a bush track, which resulted in yet another U-Turn . Along the way, a couple of warning lights lit up my dash . The Scanguage didn't scan any error codes, so I still don't know what these lights mean - they stayed on for a while, off for a while, on for a while... Eventually, they went off and stayed off.

By 4pm we we started our way across the private property. The views along this section are some of the best I've seen throughout SEQ.

    Until next time:

Great stuff Matt. An excellent turnout for what looks like a great day
I was thinking of you guys as I was driving to work in the rain... lucky buggers

How did the ol' step-up treat everyone this time around?
    Any 4wd'ing pics

I'll second Matts comments, it was a great day out.

In fact, I think we should have a new motto: VENI VIDI VEHICLE (WE CAME, WE SAW AND WE DROVE IT). Apologies to any Latin purists out there.

Seriously though, thanks to Matt, we saw country I would never have dreamed of heading into, and thanks to his excellent navigation skills, we all (I think) managed to come home with no extra scratches, although one spot through the trees saw us fold the mirrors in and I truly don't know how the 200 series managed to squeeze through, or how those bulls didn't do a number on anyones panel work.

Some of our pics to come.

      Cheers

      Dave

Aftery hyping the step-up, it was a disappointment. The track has been repaired and was no more than a steep (albeit spectacular) bush track. Much of the track had been graded, so the heavily rutted, steep sections that I was looking forward to, just didn't exist. By the time we popped out the other side, I wondered if I'd taken a wrong turn... there are many forks in the bush track and no markers to help; it really is navigate by GPS.

At home, I uploaded my GPS tracks and compared it with the last trip. Sure enough, we followed the same track. Despite it being less challenging than expected, that didn't detract from the awesome vistas that only a privileged few get to enjoy.

Re: TRIP REPORT: Sat Sep 5 : SEQ - Condamine Gorge/Rathdowney

Thanks again Matt for an excellent day, it was a real adventure.
For all who want to know, the trip was in 2 parts, Condamine then Rathdowney.

Condamine was very nice to see again. 13 x water crossing makes the tracks a bit muddy, but we were lucky that the crossings weren't too deep.

Part 2 - Rathdowney was an explorers dream.
I really don't know how Matt found these tracks or how he even navigated them in the first place.
All-in-all the weather was fantastic and we all had an awesome day out.

                  Queen Mary Falls

                  NSW Border Crossing through Rathdowney

                  Rathdowney Terrain

                  Rathdowney Tracks

Believe this or not, but this is a road on our GPS.
At times it was difficult to tell where we were going as the track was barely seen.

                  Lost in the Bush

There were a few occasions when the weighpoints let us down and we found ourselves doing plenty of U-turns.
The 100series Cruiser had some difficulty here as the trees were very close together......Argg,.Watch the Paint!!

                  Rathdowney Wild Life

We found ourselves amoungst cows alot.
They weren't shy at all and came very close to cars on more than one occasion.
We were even chased through the bush a few times.

                  The Views

The views from most lookouts were fantastic as you can see.
This one was taken at one of the properties we had permission to cross.

                  The Crew on the Day

I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting an adventure.

Matt, hopefully we can organise more trips like this in the future.

                  Regards

Absolutely mate! Just gotta get off the well-beaten path and never mind a U-Turn or two . Already started thinking about the next one... Maybe an o'niter.
