  • TRIP REPORT : Day Trip Rainbow Beach

Kelvin - thanks for organising a very pleasant trip and Rick thank you for leading the driving,

Having never been up to Rainbow Beach along the beach I loved it and will definitely be back with the full family - although Benjamin is still crapping himself after nearly running on top of that large lizard at Freshwater day use area.

I have to say it brought back the desire to get my permit for Bribie as well as planning a beach camping trip up Rainbow Beach.

I think I broke some land speed records getting back to North Lakes - I won't say what time in case kelvin gets his speed camera out but man not having any roadworks took a lot of time off the journey although I am not a fan of the 90 limit so far south of Gympie!! Needless to say there was plenty of day light hen I got home.

Rick - did you join up with the "other half" of the trip? I saw you duck off into the forest after some Prados!!
Silver 2005 GXL Prado, Petrol, auto, gold plated rated recovery points, 60ltr Waeco, Vacation Camper, Gunyah side shade, 265/65 17R Pirelli Scorpian ATR tyres (x4) and 1 new Grand Crapper (spare), Max Air II plus still lots of recovery gear!! And PradoPoint sticker!!

Wish list - ARB steel bull bar, 2 inch lift, dual battery system, snorkel, milford cargo barrier, black widow rear draw system and rear lockers as well as new bash plates for the ones I have trashed. Oh and yes a 150!!!

Re: Sun Oct 18 : SEQ Day Trip Rainbow Beach

    Kelvin & Rick,

Thanks for a great day out - as soon as the car has the 8 tonnes of sand removed from underneath and I have tightened everything that rattled loose on the Cooloola Way, I'll post some of our photos.

Prue was awed by the responsibility of navigating 5 cars through the forest instead of the usual one!

    Cheers,

    Dave

      Hi Guys

Thanks Kelvin for the trip organising... As it happened we ended up with the A-Team and the B-Team. As a method of distinguishing the teams... whichever one Kelvin travels with... is designated the A-Team! ( all a bit Royal eh?) The 2 teams nevertheless were never very far apart and indeed we caught up on the homeward dash. Most of us that didnt "de salt"at Rainbow would have made it home just before dark. It was light enough for me to notice a blown seal in OME front shock.. which now needs replacing. And i was all set to spend the bikkies on an awning instead of a shock... but thems the breaks! A few pics of the A-Team exploits and a challenge to the B-Team to match it!

Thanks again for the great day, great company and perfect weather and tides!

              Leon

The weather was awesome - but probably a close second to where you are heading off to.

Safe travels - Bribie awaits on your return!!

Re: TRIP REPORT : Day Trip Rainbow Beach

We missed you as we had to leave mid-afternoon, but the weather was fantastic and there were a whole bunch of people enjoying themselves on the beach. Here are a few more images from the same location on that weekend.

                  Prado on Teewah Beach:

Apart from my car and the above photos from the Pradopoint outing I didn't see another set of Maxtrax all weekend.

Camping on Teewah Beach (we were the advance crew, so we sort of spread ourselves around while the others arrived):

Cars parked at Double Island Point, note the cars on the rocks:

                  Double Island Point Lighthouse:

As people have said, the weather was perfect, we were travelling with a group of friends in a range of different 4WD vehicles some more soft roaders than others and for most of the time they were all fine, but some of the drivers decided that they would get stuck crossing the beach getting into the Freshwater day use area, we had no problems in our Prado and were ferrying the others on and off the beach as required.

Glad to see everyone else had a great time. Bribie for the next trip maybe?

                    Hi all;
Wish we were able to make this trip, looked like another good weekend away.
Unfortunately due to a servicing "mistake" our Land Cruiser was taken off the road before we could join the trip and will be off the road for over a month awaiting parts!!!

You'd think a National servicing organisation wouldn't kill the "un-killable" King of the Road!!?

Bugger, didnt realise there was a PradoPoint trip on. We camped at Freshwater over 17th/18th. Took the 90 Series and Buggy up there for some fun. Didnt see any other Prados though.
