  • Sat June 12th - SA/Adelaide Day Trip - Loveday

    Hello all

Fancy a day out at Loveday on Sat 12th???

Apologies for short notice - myself, the troops and a few friends (in mainly Toyos) are heading to Loveday 4WD park on Sat. Its about 15mins out of Barmera - which is further than Morgan. There is a ute weekend comp on at the same time, but the place is big enough for us and them.

We will be leaving from the southern suburbs of Adelaide - and getting there via Karoonda.

if anyone's keen - please PM me so i can give you more information. The cost is $40 per car.

There is everything there from mud baths to moguls to sand dunes and everything from meek and mild to diff destroying.

Lastly with all PP trips, basic rules and condition applies. Please agree to it before confirming your attendance.

    PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER BELOW;
IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO AGREE TO THE TERMS SET OUT THEREIN THEN PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND.
THIS INCLUDES PRADOPOINT MEMBERS & THEIR FAMILIES & FRIENDS!

    Cick here for disclaimer

Re: Sat June 12th - SA/Adelaide Day Trip - Loveday

        Update...

Well - a great day, albeit no other vehicles could come. I rated the overall experience as a "$15 high pressure clean-up". it took $15 in $1 and $2 coins to clean the underside and wheels and engine bay. My wheel balance was shot driving home (the mud/clay were like bricks).

IMHO - the best part of Loveday, is the playground. Unfortunately, no pictures (my shot takeer was too busy holding on!). Im in need of a replacement bash plate. The factory one suffered somewhat and i fear another good strike will transfer the impact directly to something that matters (sump, front diff). Simply banging it back into shape will only restore the shape and not add greater protection. Maybe time to search the forums for ideas (TJM, BrownsDavis etc).

Anyway - hope to go there again soon. For those that are interested, allow 3hrs drive from Adelaide to get there and another 3hrs back. To have a decent play, also allow 3hrs there - more if you are in convoy and want to watch and laugh a bit at others.

As a suggestion of what to do - spend time at the playground and less time on the tracks. The tracks are very basic - even the "sand dunes". What was good value - and turned out to be a real PITA were 3 tracks (ascent/descent) leading down to a dried-up lake. I managed to get up/down 2 out of 3 of them without too many issues but one of them (the steepest) was just too steep and rutted. More clearance and better tyres probably would have helped - maybe even a front locker. I could go down the steepest one ok - albeit a bit of sliding and bumping over the mogals. The troops left me to do it alone....i must say, my sphincter had a good work-out.

If anyone has done all 3 - pls give me some hints?! I tried quite a few times getting up the steepest one and got to a certain section where i simply lost all traction on the loose pebbly/rocky surface. More speed would have resulted in the car possibly hitting rock protusions and damage so i thought crawling up was best. A rear locker helped a LOT - but still wasn't good enough. Maybe i should have gone faster, but i fear crashing and bashing up would have done some greater damage to the underside. I am using BFG AT KOs. Some say muddies are better for rocky/pebbly terrain. Thoughts - or a red herring?

        Anyway - that's it.

        cheerio

That steepest hill, No 3, did the owner mention to you that several vehicles have been written off trying to get up that hill, or more to the point rolling back down. i have also witnessed the owner tell people that the mud baths are only shallow and they wont have any problems, only to have them get stuck and have there car fill up with mud. he thought it was a good laugh and only wanted the driver to go through because he had a video camera there at the time. lots of other worrying things that i have witnessed there, lots of fun to be had but be cautious.

          Cheers Andrew

            Andrew

Err - no. I guess he forgot to mention those minor details. That said, what you have said has given me a boost of my confidence re: abilities. I didnt think i did anything wrong......but i guess there is a point where gravity takes over for any vehicle.

I did see a few cars get stuck in the mud and the steep mogal bits in the playground. I on the other hand, got through ok but again, i did leave some which i thought were not even worth attempting. What i did was very difficult/challenging enough and quite a few attempts on some as well.

The car's in for its 40k service today. Im dreading the call "hey, i have found this busted XYZ - it will cost you $ABC to replace etc etc).

Given your details say you are from loxton - i presume you have been there and done Loveday as well? Did you get to go up all 3 hills and do all the obstacles in the playground???

Re: Sat June 12th - SA/Adelaide Day Trip - Loveday

HI MJ, yeah ive been there a couple of times, the first time only did the tracks through the bush which was pleasant, no problems for me but my mate got stuck in the teaser in his 100 series and i had to snatch him out. got up the first two hills at spec lakes OK, didnt even attempt the third as i had been warned about the accidents and apart from that my prado was only 3000kms old at the time and i didnt feel that brave with a new car. Went back again a few month later, the bush tracks were closed so we spent half a day on the playground, didnt tackle the sidestep crushers as a few mates had been a couple of weeks previous and all of them smashed there side steps badly on that one, did pretty much everything else except the deep mud and the large tyre obstacles. interesting watching others trying to get through some of the major articulation obstacles absolutely thrashing there cars and probably cracking there heads on roofs when bouncing over the humps, we cheated, hit the locker switches and walked over the same obstacles in LL easy as. i did manage a few scrapes on the bash plate under the front tank but no other damage. its a good track with something for everyone just that it seems to be run more like a circle work comp at a B&S ball rather than a serious off road adventure park.
oh by the way if you do manage to get up the third hill then there is a fourth, a winch is mandatory for this hill unless you have a full blown rock crawler, scant regard for your car would also help as the last part of this hill is insane.

              Cheers Andrew

I'll agree with you on the running. I went to a few events up there to have a snoop for a sanctioning motorsport body..... OMG!
I was just waiting for someone to get killed and watch the gates get shut forever... It is run somewhat loosely in regards to safety I found..

Couldn't have said it better myself, I hate to say it but i think it will flourish until someone gets seriously injured or killed and then goodnight nurse.
