  • Mt Mee Day Trip - July 18th 2010

    Hi All

Mt Mee has won for the day trip this coming Sunday the 18th July, 9am meetup at the Dayboro bakery before we head out for a drive. Looking forward to it as it has been around 7 years since I was last there.

Just some little info on trips with other Prado Point members... viewtopic.php?f=29&t=5215

See all those that would like to come along on Sunday!

    Cheers Daniel

    --Original Post--

I am not sure if I have posted this in the right area or not, if not please let me know.

My wife and I are thinking of taking our new 150 out for a run on Sunday 18th July to either O'Rielly's or Lions road. We are planning to do the Dirty Weekends version, has anyone been on either of these trips lately? If so any pointers or tips or anybody else keen to join us newbies (both to PP and the Prado) for the day?

The last time I completed Lions Rd was around 7 years ago with our 4WD club and I have not been to O'Rielly's before.

    Cheers Daniel

That's what I thought, I would say my preference is leaning more towards the Border Ranges trip, from memory with the club trip we found some nice little tracks off to the side to have some 'play time'...

          Hi,

Last time we went up O'Reillys it was a little rougher than usual because of the rain but nothing a RAV4 couldn't handle. Last time I did the Lions road it was in a mitsubishi magna. There are side tracks (short) off O'Reillys and a skywalk through the forest at the end of the drive.

The condamine river road is a good drive too.

            G'day Daniel,

I've never been to Lion's Rd, so can't comment.

Duck Creek road is certainly easy enough and with O'Reilly's as the destination, will make for a great day out. If you keep your eye out, there are a few tracks that are also worth exploring and offer slightly more challenging 4WD'ing. There is one descent that requires low-range (unless you like riding your brakes), but is easy all the same.

An itinerary that we've enjoyed in the past is to start with breakfast at Mount Tamborine and maybe take in a winery there. Head to O'Reilly's via Duck Creek which makes for a nice morning-tea/lunch stop. At O'Reilly's there are plenty of short walk options, though the Tree Top walk is a must. Feed the lorikeets & king-parrots etc. Return via road to Canungra and depending on your time, stop in at O'Reilly's winery for their wine sampler or head to Canungra Hotel before heading home. Easily accomplished in a day if you keep moving.

Thanks! I'm keen... though we have new flooring going in this weekend, so there's a chance I'll be tied up with odd jobs around the house. I'd be happy with a drive to either destination, though I probably won't know whether I'll be available on Sunday until Fri or Sat.

It's been a few weeks since I've been out and about and I'm getting antsy.

            Cheers,
            LFaR.

Mmm, after speaking to a few guys at work today I think Lions Rd might also be out, I have been told that it mostly bitumen now... Anyone up for a Mt Mee Drive instead?

Re: Lions Road OR now MT Mee? - July 18th 2010

A very easy drive could be to do the Lions Rd and then swing up into Border Ranges National Park.

I say easy because yes, the Lions Rd is all bitumen and the last time I did Border Ranges (slowly) I was in a Subaru with low profile tyres , however the views are spectacular and there are lots of places to pull over for a cuppa. If you keep going you pop out at Lillian Rock and can return via Murwillumbah or Kyogle.

Last year I tried to investigate Mebbin National Park, which is at the base of the escarpment that forms Border Ranges, but at the time floodwaters and a lot of fallen trees prevented a thorough explore and the actual road to Mebbin was closed off. The map shows lots of dead-end tracks that might be worth a look.

                  Cheers,

                  Dave

                    Hi Richo

How does a Mt Mee drive sound? I am keen to have a little more a play in the new 150. Where would your preferred meeting place and what time?

I will have to pull finger Saturday afternoon and temp install my UHF as I had hoped my finished bullbar would be on by now but alas no... That is good but as I have had a change of heart and will now be fitting a T13 Steel Colour Coded and a winch, the wife has said yes so I need to strike while the iron is hot.

Hutch are you keen for a play at Mt Mee?

                    Cheers Daniel

                          Hi Daniel

We're in, the bakery at Dayboro is the Pradopoint standard at 9.00am, I don't know the tracks up there as the couple of times I went I was in the middle of the group having too much fun to worry about where we were going. I've got a handheld UHF you can use as I haven't got the in car yet as well.

                          Regards, Richo.

PS: When you get to the bakery look for the moustache.

                            Hi Richo

Easy done, 9am at the Bakery in Dayboro. I will change the top heading on the post. Thanks for the UHF offer, much appreciated but I have a GME handheld that came as a bonus so I will use that as I would really prefer to mount my antenna correct the first time on my bar when it finally goes on.

By the looks we will have a few other PP'ers joining us as well so it should make for a good day!

See all those coming on Sunday 9am at the Dayboro bakery.

                            Cheers Daniel
