We recently spent a relaxing week beach camping on North Stradbroke Island. We've been regular visitors to Straddie for many years (thanks to friends who own a house at Point Lookout), but we recently decided we should see what Straddie holds in terms of a camping experience. We camped on Flinders beach approximately 1.5km's from Adder Rock.
Waiting for the Barge. To maximize our time over there we booked on the 7am from Cleveland which meant a 4am start.
Our Chariot Arrives.
The excitement was too much for our Chocolate Labrador.
Having been on the beach for less than 20 minutes we had the opportunity to finally try out our Maxtrax without the inconvenience of actually getting bogged ourselves.
All set up. We wanted to take enough firewood for the entire week but didn't want it to take up too much space (we took everything including the kitchen sink) so we picked up some 2nd hand Untreated Hardwood Sleepers off Ebay and the Drop saw did the rest.
Our home away from home. Although we were there during the first week of school holidays, the nearest camp to ours was literally hundreds of metres away.
Our first sunset of the trip.
Although it wasn't anywhere near as cold as we feared it may be, having a nice campfire each night was a nice luxury.
I'm not normally the type to be up at sunrise but when it's as beautiful as this even I'm prepared to drag myself out of bed.
The new toy.
Lunch by a tidal pool on the beach.
The sunrises were good, the sunsets were even better.
In an ironic ending. Our barge trip back took 2.5 hours (rather than 45 minutes).... The low tide was VERY low and one of the other barges ran aground in the channel near cleveland. We weren't able to get around it, so we sat there until the tide came in enough for it to get moving again.
