Tips for Sydney-Perth-Sydney touring.

We're going for a drive. Sydney to Perth and return for a big reunion during spring and looking for any things to be aware of, places to avoid, security issues, car tips/mods, things to see and do etc.

We've booked all our stays both ways. Spouse not keen on camping.

Early 21 Prado GXL. Tow bar, alloy bull bar with recovery points, LED driving lights, UHF CB. Running standard factory tyres. Puncture repair kit, single spare tyre, compressor, lithium ion jump starter, small fridge/freezer and camp stove.

No plans for hard off road just a few side tracks/turn offs and points of interest along the way.

I live in Perth's suburbs and have just returned from a trip Perth-Adelaide(Mouth of the Murray River)-Perth 6,300km round trip for a family reunion too. With wife, we're in our 60s and 70s, towing an off-road hybrid caravan with our MY2016 Prado GX. The Prado was serviced before leaving Perth - the mechanic replaced the front brake pads. The only things we needed enroute were fuel and food (and firewood for nightly campfires!). I took a tool kit, tyre pressure gauge and 12v compressor. I used the pressure gauge, that was all. We camped from 50m to 200m off the highway every night. No concerns with security - obviously we locked the Prado and caravan at night and when we were away from them.
