Here are a few pics of our recent trip up the Birdsville Track.
We arrived in Marree on 3 August for a flight over Lake Eyre. Here is the Birdsville Track flooded by Copper Creek.

When we arrived at Marree, the northern part of the track was still closed but when we checked after our flight, it had just reopened so we set off the next day. Here we are coming off the Cooper Ck ferry.

The northern detour to the ferry heads through the sandhills seen here with the flooded Cooper Ck in the distance.

We stayed overnight at Mungerannie.

Next morning, the sunrise over the Mungerannie Wetlands. A delightful spot with plenty of birdlife.

Luckily, the track north was still open to 4wd so we headed off.

It was easy to see why it had been closed with many sections of mud and water.

We made it to Birdsville OK and headed out to Big Red. It is a good gravel road all the way except the last couple of hundred metres is now under water. To get to Big Red required a 12km detour along an undulating sandy track - but was worth the effort.
