I will possibly be in, I am only back the day before or the 20th from an interstate rally, and I have a large party on the night of the 20th too. Would have to leave fairly early.

Tides "usually" peak around 1pm, but may vary. currently they are peaking at 120pm, beach last week was still traversable at Hi tide.

Definitely putting this date in the calender. Should be a good day.

There will be no problem with tides on the 20th. It's effectively a dodge, with very little movement. A peak of only 0.64 metres. Getting up to the mouth and back won't be a problem.

        Cheers

Its a bit to far for us to go just for a day trip......................... so we will have to make it a full weekend . anyone got any tips for a good spot to set up the Camper trailer in that neck of the woods. Could always set it up in the inlaws front yard in Victor, but would rather somewhere else.

          Cheers Andrew

There is a caravan pk at North Goolwa (Noble ave) you can rent spots there. Toilets/ Showers laundry etc. Or if you want to rough it a bit, you can tow your camper down to the Mouth (11-12kms) along the Beach and set up down there, plenty of space. No services naturally!

We usually go about 4-6 kms down the beach anyway when we set up with the PP group. Being that it will be a bit colder than last time we might plan to head near one of the spots where there is some areas in the dunes that provide wind protection and somewhere to have BBQ's and kids to play in the dune areas.

You would know anyway, but your probably best to come the Alawoona/ Karoonda way, turn off from the freeway at Callington (Left turn) to Strathalbyn, then down to Goolwa.

This may be incorrect, but I was under the strong impression that camping on Goolwa beach was strictly prohibited. I know you can camp on the coorong side, but travel from there to Goolwa is over 2 hours because of the lakes.

You could camp somewhere like Newland Head Conservation Park, which is only 40 mins from Goolwa. The drive between there and Goolwa is scenic if you take a roads like Wilkins Road & Black Valley Road (i.e., stay off the main roads) Deep Creek Conservation Park is also good but that's about 1 hour from Goolwa.

Numerous caravan parks around there if you're willing to pay 40odd dollars for the night.

I frequent down there and there is always dozens of people camping overnight. Never known any issues with it..

In Summer there is sometimes as many as 50 at the mouth on a given weekend!

I have camped down there many a night, even when the Police 4x4 and the rangers have come along and had a chat. Never been asked to move along..

I know a couple of schools also has a camp down there for 3 nights (Westminster is one of them).

Just rang "Susan" at Goolwa council and she did a search of the by laws.

There is a 40Kmh speed limit on the beach. Basically she said if your fishing down there you can camp overnight, Camping on the Beach is not allowed, but around the far end she said was ok (So right at the mouth) Fires are permitted below Hi tide line (Use common sense). and the rangers "Dont" have a 4wd so cant easily access the end to check.. (That would explain why the only time I saw the rangers was in the Police 4x4!!).

I would take that as its allowed
I wouldnt camp on the beach anyway, I have driven it at high tide before where the water is lapping at your wheels and there is a 15 foot high dune on the other side Park right down the end after the pump outlet (You will see what i mean).

Keep sane, and take your rubbish and I cant see any issue myself. Might even drop thru and see you if I stay down @ Goolwa myself!

Dropped down Sunday and Sunday night (10pm) Didnt see you there?

Got MASSIVELY bogged at the crossover to the sand pumping pipe, was snatching out a stock Grande that had bogged itself.

Was dragging him backwards when he braked cauysing me to dig down to the belly in seconds before I could drop it out of gear..

Ended up about 8 cars bogged in the same spot within an hour, we ended up using a Exhaust Jack to lift the cars both out and packing under the tires. Took an hour to do both.
Typical as I had just removed my winch cable that morning as I had a faulty soilenoid and couldnt rewind it.. MEH!

The beach was massively soft, lots of traffic chewing it up downn the far end.

Yep - I went down for a drive today. Got about 2/3rds of the way down and turned around. That was a bit tricky becuase the tide was very high. It was soft sand or no sand!! I gave up as I hadn't seen a car for a long while (4.30 this arvo) and the tracks were getting softer and softer. By your account Team Piggy i made a wise decision :-)
