Just got back from a weekend up at Ninghan Station, around 370 kms north of Perth. We headed off mid afternoon Friday after an early knock off from work and arrived in the dark around 7.30pm.
First call was the station homestead to pay for the stay ($7.00 per head per night) and then off to Warrdagga Rock to set up camp and get a fire going.

Saturday morning was overcast and cold but a quick hike to the top of Warrdagga soon warmed things up. Up the top there is the usual rock cairn and spectacular views in all directions.
A mill a few hundred metres from the base of the rock supplies water to the wildlife in what was otherwise a pretty dry and dusty place.

After a bit of breakfast we headed off to do a bit of exploring, heading out to Coonigal well were we came across a paddock lightly covered with yellow wildflowers. There hasn’t been a lot of rain at Ninghan this season so the flowers aren’t at their best this year.

We then took a back track from Coonigal around the base of Mount Singleton only to have the track peter out into a valley full of goats and tyre punishing stakes.

A quick recalculation on Oziexplorer soon had us back on another track heading back towards the station homestead and the track up to Mount Singleton.
Mount Singleton is the highest point on the property (679 metres) with views out to Lake Moore in the distance.
A quick bite to eat then it was back down the track to try and make our way to the shores of Lake Moore. We headed back towards Warrdagga Rock and found a road heading directly south of the Warddagga turnoff so off we went.

The road quickly narrowed down to a winding paint scratching (aerial bending) track that eventually took us to the shores of Lake Moore, a huge salt lake to the east of the property. Initially the surface was firm but it soon became obvious that we shouldn’t test our luck so we got off before we got onto the lake proper.

It turned out to be the right decision as just under the surface was the usual bog that could very quickly turn a weekend away into a nightmare.
Soon we were back at camp for a few drinks and another camp fire before the wind picked up sending us off to bed early after making sure the fire was safe.
The next morning we took off for home, deciding to take the back roads through Kalannie and Wongan Hills. Not far out of Kalannie we found some Wreath Leschenaultias which are'nt that easy to find.
All too soon it was back to Perth
with around 1000 kms added to the Prado’s trip meter.
