  • NSW Meet up 2007 - 1

Well we finally made it, a NSW meet up. And what a great turn out given the late notice. I didn't get my 120 back until last night and the decision for me to participate was made very much at the last minute - sounds like it was a last minute thing for a few of us.

    Great turn out, 7 vehicles including 6 Toyotas: 5 Prados, 4 120s, Yota's 90 and Camo's 4Runner!

The following pradopointers attended. Drew, 120GXV6 (Matthew) and Austin, Camo, PeteS and Krys, Yota, Jacto and family and a Ford Courier with Jacto.

We met up at The Pines picnic area and had some serious chatting and looking at the vehicles. It was great to see how others had installed their hardware.

Then we headed off on some tracks. Between us all we only had limited knowledge of the tracks in the area - there are so many of them! The first loops was very tame, with a couple of bits of mud, the next track we did was a bit more difficult, providing some excitement for those that hadn't done much four wheel driving before. The Ford ute couldn't make it up after several attempts so they got to use their newly installed winch, which performed flawlessly.

A couple more fun tracks became very overgrown, with the track deteriorating on the other side of the creek into some extreme rock steps. Not for me, well not until I get the air locker installed anyway, so we all turned around and headed out.

We stopped at a clearing and some of us had a bit of fun in the mud, with some more group shots.

Then Yota took us down a real cool track to see one of his Geocaches, interesting stuff, some of us decided to give the track a shot going uphill. The Toyotas just ate it, of course.

We all stopped on the way back to civilisation to air up our tyres and have a final chat, with the convoy breaking up at 1730. I was plesantly surprised with the quick trip home, I was home in two hours including stopping for a Pizza at Kurrajong.

I'm sure there'll be more photos posted by everyone else, and also some GPS tracks and maps.

Thanks again everyone for coming along, I had a great day, can't wait to do it again. Also looking forward to a camping trip.

    Drew.

Further to Drews great Trip Report I though I would add some different angles.

BTW thanks once again to Drew for being the catalyst and arranging the trip and to all the gang who attended.... a Grrrrrrrrreat day.

As Drew mentioned we had a winching excercise to do for the Shane's Ford Courier tray top who tagged along with us. The courier was a bit light on in the back end to gain traction.
The Pic below is looking at the Prado's rear hook and if it was a shipping or a recovery point. Yota's convinced us to go for the safety factor and we eventually elected to use the nearest solid tree as an anchor.

Drew continued leading the convoy as we made our way along some very narrow sections. I knew it was narrow because the vegetation was making those screeeeeching noises against Angus's pristine paint work. At one stage Drew took a turn down a track where we came across a rocky incline that was considered by all to be a bit too much of a challenge, especially as the arvo was getting away from us. Pic below shows where we would have liked to have reached...
          DREW'S HILL

Since we looked like serious 4WDrivers we were asked by a Ford driver if he could make the steep hilly descent near us.
No worries mate, we'll show you the lines and where to place your tyres... well we know our Prado's but not those Fords it seems
          >>>>>>>>here's the results folks..........................
You can see the pointing and arguing going on where we went wrong with our expert guidance.
          BAD ADVICE

Yep, you guessed it, is not really true, however what is fact is that all forests somehow become dumping grounds for stolen cars.

YUK!, MUD: On our return Drew & Camo showed us they still love playing in the mud.
Pics below of Drew's mud splurge...

          AND ANOTHER

Well we are on our way out.
You know after all those cups of coffee "you jus gotta pee".
We prado'pointers' do it in groups as the pic below shows:
          PRADO"POINT"?

Dam'n, yep I lied again. The pic actually is of us looking at one of Yota's Geochaching spots. I never knew what Geochaching was before, and I must say I love the idea.

AND: looking forward to our next gathering.

OH YEAH Jacto & I can vouch that those Grandtrek AT20s got into places many others had real difficulty with  :P

          Cheers

              NSW meet up

              Hi Guys

Fantastic day all round and it was great to finally meet such a down to earth group of people. Thanks again for waiting for me to arrive and here are a couple of pics.

Good on ya Pete for mentioning the Grandtreks going where others couldn't.

Of course when discussing the best line to take there was contemplation about which rocks to move

The next section would have been trickier

Can't wait for the next one, so when you're up for it lets go

                Some good pics there Jacto.
Betya Camo will PM you for the pic of his vehicle with the front LHS wheel in the air.

Unfortunatley we all missed the pic when the wheel went right up.... Damn.
The BIG smile on Camo's face after was even better

                  NSW meet up

                  Hi Pete

The photo in a reduced format doesn't do it justice, the original is around 2.3 meg and I am sorry that I missed the shot seconds earlier when both wheels were off the ground. If you could send me the photos from the battery install it would be appreciated, also someone must have taken some shots of my climb through that terrain, I don't suppose it was you because I would appreciate those also? Don't know about you but I basically made a decision on Sunday to lift mine a couple of inches, trouble is though it'll take me closer to those overhanging blackberry bushes to scratch more paintwork....oh hum, nah do it anyway.

What a bummer. Still, it's a good investment keeping the "trouble and strife" on side. Just don't let her forget next time you want to go bush.
