NSW: Saturday October 23: Sunny Corner SF

Heading out to Sunny Corner State Forest between Lithgow & Bathurst on Saturday. All are welcome to come along but must agree to the trip disclaimer:

Meeting at: McDonalds at Richmond, cnr of March & Market Sts. at 8:30am, departing around 8:45 am
From there we will travel to Lithgow then onto the Great Western Hwy out to Sunny Corner. We may explore some of the eastern side of the forest, most tracks are easy/medium although there is one difficult hill climb but a chicken track around it.


Bring: Prado, morning tea, lunch, camera, sense of adventure!

Another great day out as usual! More of a recce trip today; we started off at Daylight Creek Rd. on the eastern side of Sunny Corner State Forest.



Although it is very steep, mountainous country, the track had been recently maintained & unfortunately was an easy drive. Until we came to a very steep & rutted hill climb not unlike Mt.Walker. We certainly had some fun climbing this hill but the rear locker on my vehicle made it a lot easier. WBY1 had some traction problems but eventually made it up without a snatch or winch being needed.











From there we continued along the main track passing through private property. We stopped at the top of the ridge to check the excellent views of the surrounding countryside.







We eventually came to Turon National Park with the focus of the area being the Turon River. Gold was discovered around here in the 1850's & many diggings & mine shafts remain today.



























From the park we continued north towards Capertee & stopped by the side of the road to air up.



Our recce trip today turned out to be quite good, the area around the river is excellent & would be ideal for those with young kids as the river is not too deep & would ideal on a hot day.

Yeah it was a very good day of driving. Glenn led the way to some good areas that are definately worth going back to again.

Keep an eye on this forum for our upcoming trips. I'm sure that we'll have a trip going out to Sunny Cnr or somewhere close to Sydney (Newnes SF etc) in the next month or so and you're welcome to come along.

Keep an eye on this forum for our upcoming trips. I'm sure that we'll have a trip going out to Sunny Cnr or surrounding areas in the next month or somewhere close to Sydney (Newnes SF etc) and you're welcome to come along.
